Yamaha Drums will host a special live concert during this year’s Music City Drum Show, bringing together more than a dozen of its top-endorsed drummers for a night dedicated to rhythm, collaboration, and groove. The event, called A Night in the Pocket, takes place on July 19 at Analog, upstairs at the Hutton Hotel in Nashville. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with music starting an hour later. Entry is free, and seating will be first-come, first-served.

Held in conjunction with the two-day drum show at The Fairgrounds Nashville, Yamaha’s evening performance aims to offer something more relaxed and musical to contrast with the trade floor bustle. While the daytime exhibition will focus on gear, Yamaha’s booth will feature their Recording Custom and Absolute Hybrid Maple drum kits, DTX electronic setups, reliable hardware, and the increasingly popular FGDP finger drum pads. The night show is strictly about playing.
The performers are all Yamaha artists, known for work across a wide range of genres. Their names haven’t all been released, but fans of funk, jazz, gospel, and rock can expect a mix. The goal, according to organizers, is to showcase feel over flash. No competitions, no solo duels, just good drumming in the pocket, which explains the name.
This drum show itself continues to grow in scale and reach. Scheduled for July 19 and 20, it pulls together vintage drum dealers, custom builders, educators, manufacturers, and curious hobbyists. For Yamaha, showing up isn’t just about sales, it’s about being part of the scene. Booth #51 will be their home base during the day, where attendees can try out gear and talk directly with reps and artists.
Analog, the venue for the evening concert, is known for its clear sound and tight layout, which should lend itself well to this kind of show. Unlike big festival stages, Analog puts the audience right up close, making it easier to feel the groove in real time and catch the interaction between the drummers onstage.
This kind of event, where gear companies put their artists in front of fans outside of major tours, adds a human layer to the often corporate trade show format. With Yamaha Drums leaning into both sides: product and performance, their presence at this year’s Music City Drum Show looks set to offer more than just hardware. It’s also a celebration of the people behind the drums.
