Ludwig has unveiled a new collaboration with powerhouse drummer Jon Theodore, releasing the limited-edition Revelation Signature Snare, a model that aims to capture the punch, sensitivity, and style associated with Theodore’s unique sound. Designed closely with the artist himself, this snare is a mix of musical muscle and refined looks, built for serious players and collectors alike.

The Revelation measures 6.5 inches deep by 14 inches across and features a seamless brass shell: a tried-and-true material for drummers looking for warmth, volume, and clarity in one package. What sets it apart, though, is its finish: an antique nickel plating that not only gives the drum a bold, vintage aesthetic but also subtly shapes its sound. The finish gives the tone a slightly darker edge, softening the brass’s natural brightness without killing its attack.

Hardware-wise, the snare sticks to the theme. Everything is nickel-plated to match the shell, which gives the drum a consistent, understated look, nothing flashy, but definitely striking. Ludwig’s iconic blue and olive badge makes an appearance here, a nod to the company’s legacy, and each drum bears Jon Theodore’s signature to mark it as part of this limited run. Ludwig hasn’t said exactly how many will be made, but the vibe is definitely more boutique than mass-produced.

Sonically, this thing is built to deliver. It ships with a Remo Controlled Sound Black Dot head on top: one that’s known for taming overtones while giving you plenty of attack. On the bottom, it’s fitted with PureSound’s Super 30 snare wires, which stretch wider across the head for increased sensitivity and a more even snare response. It’s a setup clearly chosen to reflect how Theodore plays: aggressive when needed, but capable of nuance and control.

If you’ve followed his work with bands like The Mars Volta or Queens of the Stone Age, you know that dynamic control is a big part of Theodore’s style. He’s not just about volume—he’s about shape and feel. This snare seems to match that energy. Whether in the studio or on a loud stage, it gives you the tools to cut through a mix without sacrificing tone.

Ludwig is presenting this model as both a pro-level instrument and a collector’s item. And it walks that line well. You can mount it up and take it on tour, or keep it as a piece of signature gear that holds value over time. Either way, it feels like a celebration, not just of Theodore’s playing, but of Ludwig’s ability to craft something that feels modern without abandoning its roots.

The Jon Theodore Revelation Snare is available now through select high-end drum dealers. And while no official production numbers have been shared, it’s safe to say they won’t be on shelves for long.
