Hey all, was looking online for a drum forum related to metal. Not sure if this is the place or not but it's what popped up and I will certainly have a look around.
Just an introduction suppose. I am a guitarist, have played drums off and on my whole life but a lifetime ago I was in a band that started doing well and just stuck to guitar. I regret not sticking with drums because......good luck finding an amazing drummer for your band and guitarists are a dime a dozen lol.
After a VERY long hiatus I've decided to get back into drumming. It's fun, I want to do something with my extra time, get into better shape and my friends want me to play with them. My skill level seems to be an ok fit for the music they want to play, which I do enjoy doing drums for. Although I definitely need to improve a lot.
My weakness has always been my feet, there was a point 20 years ago where I would have considered myself decent but it's hard to get back to that. I got myself a pair of speed cobra 910 with a trick shaft. Not sure if that was the best choice or not but I will give them a good run and possibly upgrade to the acd direct drive kit.
My personal goal is to build the stamina to get through a full set with ease and to just get the chops needed but also very keen on mastering blasting and 200+bpm 16ths. That along with not ruining my muscle memory and still being able to play slow as well.
I can successfully do the 16ths but not for very long at all. I personally feel that other than simply practicing the biggest hurdle is going to be figuring out the proper pedal settings.
Hoping to find some general technique and gear tips along with some cool discussions on here because I'm all in with it.
Extremely long post I suppose. Here is a low quality cell phone clip of the first song we're working on after about 3 sessions so far. It is a bit rough, go easy lol.
