I appreciate this is hardly post worthy but it's a slow day at work....
Just received a new PR case - check out the size discrepancy with the old one.... both claim to be 14x6.5

wow, thats definitely shrunk in the wash!!

glad i use ahead, their cases seem so far to stay the same sizes.

Does the indicated drum size fit correctly in the smaller bag? If it does is there less padding than the larger offering? Curious...

Older case is on the left or right?
Older one is smaller one on the right.

It fits much nicer in the older/smaller version. The new one is too big imo, it flops around the drum a lot.
I also have a Tama branded case in the same claimed 14x6.5 size and that matches the newer/bigger PR size.

I appreciate the extra room in the seat and thighs.... I mean for the snare drum, of course.
Actually, I have a guitar center Road Runner labeled as 14x5.5 - was pleasantly surprised that it very comfortably fits my Pork Pie 14x6.5 - no complaints here.

Weird!!

I had a similar issue with my PR cymbal bag. It clearly states 24" but it fits a 22" cymbal very snugly. No way is it a 24". (The reason I bought the bag in the first place...)

Have you tried putting a 6.5" snare in that smaller bag?

Yep - fits perfectly. The new 'oversize' one is too big imo...

It’s not the worst thing if you have a few cases and you have a few snares, you can swap them around to suit various drums. I’d use the bigger one for my snares with big throw offs. My dw snares aren’t too happy in my older PR case and the mag throwoff is the culprit.

I would place a couple of new heads in the larger snare bag. Always carry a spare snare side anyway.
Always carry a spare batter but not a reso - though I've never needed it and I've been gigging consistently for over 30 years now. (The spare batter also fits in the smaller case btw)
Thinking about it - a reso would make more sense - I could always nick the batter off my 14 FT if it came to it.
At the risk of jinxing it, never needed any of the spare parts I routinely carry...

The new PR almost looks more like a 15" (or even 16")
Apart from the RIMS versions, my PR cases don't seem oversized.

That being said, the PR AAA 14x8 case I got for my Sonor last year isn't exactly small either:

Hey KEEF,

Here's what you can do to make the drum fit snugly (aka make the case smaller):

Go to Hobby Lobby or Wal-Mart and get some 1" thick foam squares. I know Wal-Mart has 16" x 16" squares that are 1" thick, which works perfect. Get no smaller than 16", though. You'll need 2 pieces. The inside diameter of a case is generally 2" bigger than the diameter of the drum. This is to allow clearance for lugs, mounts, brackets etc., thus why you need a piece at least 16".

Take a 16" cymbal and trace around it on the foam. Cut it to size with normal scissors. Then put the 16" round foam at the top and bottom of the case. This will make the drum fit tighter, and offer extra protection (never a bad thing). It adds virtually nothing to the weight of the case.

I do this on all my soft bags. Not only do I get the extra protection, it makes the case feel more "full" and prevents the sagging and "frumpy" looking bag that we can all relate too. When they are nice and "full" with the foam, it is easier to stack them because they are more level.

If the case is too big diameter wise for the drum, you can always wrap the drum in an old sweatshirt or bath towel before putting it in the bag.. Again, more protection is never a bad thing and it adds an absolute minimal amount of weight.
