Low volume head for 16" bass drums with wooden hoop

Hello there, Just wondering if anyone here has any experience putting together a low volume kit with a 16" kick, and if so - what did you go for? I'm currently mixing Remo Silentstrokes and Evans Soundoffs (or DB Zeros or whatever they are called now) mesh heads on the snare/toms and just...

    New vs Old: Yamaha hips

@DutchDrummersDreams do you (or anyone else!) happen to know what the last year of production would be for the Al Foster? It would help me understand the serial number prefix of the kit I'm looking at which is HQK - which translates to me as April 2010 according to this Yamaha page. But, unless...

    New vs Old: Yamaha hips

Thanks all for your input - it's interesting hearing people's thoughts on these things. New vs Old: Yamaha hips

Thanks for the input - much appreciated! So, zooming in a little on the Manu Katche, but keeping the old vs new element of the thread going: I have found a grand total of one shell pack for sale here in the UK. It's one of the older MIJ ones (which is great!), very much 'used' condition but...

    New vs Old: Yamaha hips

Cool, so seems the general consensus is that the older hipgigs are still preferable to the SC Hip. I do think I'd go for the MK Jr if there was one available at the moment, as I personally would prefer the 16" bass drum. Will have a look at the YD series - thanks @vyacheslav. @Jasta 11 - I have...

    New vs Old: Yamaha hips

Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone has had hands-on experience with both the older Yamaha hip gigs (be it a Rick Marotta, Al Foster or Manu Katche) and the newer Stage Custom Hip? I know they have quite different aims and solutions, but they generally represent Yamaha' compact kit...
