What to pair with a 19 inch Dream Bliss Paper Thin Crash.....

HI!
I recently purchased a 19 inch Dream Paper Thin crash to use with a small Dixieland/Swing ensemble I play with.
I also purchased the Dream Bliss 15 inch hi hats. I play a Ludwig Breakbeats kit in places that have very little space. I
don't have need to mic. I am happy with the hi hats and the crash but I don't like using the crash as a ride. ( I had hope)
I am wondering what type of ride to pair this with. I would like to keep with the theme (It is my DREAM....lol) but I don't have
to. In addition, there are really fine cymbal smiths in NC, where I live, and could potentially remake the crash into more of a crash ride.
So, what would you pair this setup with?

Mike

Do you have a budget in mind?

small Dixieland/Swing ensemble
Dixieland. Authentic Dixieland I don't believe the Ride Cymbal had yet been in use (the snare drum was still the sustaining thru rolls instrument) So How a 19" Ride will work in there and 15" hi hats in Dixieland? another where the cymbals were small, thru that period :)
I have never had a bad performance out of a now 60s era Zildjian or early 70s - something no big ink- will never let you down- used.
Swing the Ride cymbal came out on top the 19" or 20" there. And the hihat went from 12" to 13" and larger.... Again can't recall a Zildjian ever giving a bad performance. Used. Well kept they will last over a 100 years.

You can find 20" no ink 50s-70s Avedis Zildjian USA 20" rides on ebay in the $150 area. And 16" and 17" for your splash crash.
Authentic small Chinese cymbal may be genre appropriate too

Thanks for replying. I do not disagree with your views on pure Dixieland. You are spot on. We play enough other styles of music
to warrant their use. I also use a 10inch splash with my cowbell and woodblock and washboard. My wife plays an old Zildjian K.
I might see if I can talk her out of it.

here's a resource info on dixieland/ riverboat/ drumming:

example Ebay vint Zildjians low price on my watch list

OP, sorry I don't have any experience with Dream cymbals. Others here on the forum can recommend something from the Dream lineup.

There is a house kit locally that has a Heartbeat 21-inch Epic Ride. That kit has a hodgepodge of different cymbal brands but I've been really impressed with the sound of the Epic Ride and how well it blends with all the other cymbals.

One of my favorite personal rides is a 21-inch Istanbul Agop Mel Lewis Ride with three rivets from the factory. Despite it being designed as a jazz cymbal it is almost always on my kit for whatever genre music I play: ride or crash, it does it all well without overwhelming the mix. I give my nod to the Agop Mel Lewis if you could score a good price for a used one and you think its sound is what you're after.

Old Ks sell for astronomical prices these days. Make sure you insure it! 😬

Sometimes when I consider "should I take out 2- 20" old K Zildjians right and left " I ask myself.
"Is this band worth it?"
Answer has been usually "No." But I may be loosening up a little.

I used old Ks for 20 years steady gigging- 20-18-14s.
And I'm slowly bringing them back out.
Zildjians are the foundation US A or Turkish K

HI!
Question, that picture of the Vintage Zildjian has a keyhole in it. Will that affect the sound? (or how much do those injuries affect the sound) I will also look at Heartbeat 21 Epic ride. Thanks to everyone who has answered so far. What would you insure a vintage K for? (my wife asks)
