That sounds like an ideal gig!Regular bi-weekly speakeasy gig snare/hats/ride. Paid + tips, half-off dinner after playing, and alcohol usually compedView attachment 158975
And.... park right at the door. Our band spot is 10 feet from the door. Plus the venue is 5 minutes from my house. Tips are very scarce, and we only make $75 each but it's about the easiest gig ever, owner and managers are staff are friendly nice as can be super-duper, and the patrons like us.That sounds like an ideal gig!

Please explain the noise limiter as I've never heard of this?Another wedding gig on Monday night, taken during setup. It was blistering hot and I was sweating bullets throughout.

The groom apparently could play guitar. Well he got up and played one song with us, turns out he can’t really play guitar or was far too drunk to remember how to
(Hopefully he didn’t have any further ‘performance issues’ later than night!!!)
On the wall opposite us you can just make out a noise limiter. The band did a great job and didn’t have a single issue for 2+ hours.
However, the DJ after us kept hitting the limit, having the sound cut out every couple or so minutes, each time without any music for a few minutes.
He was having a terrible time and I could see the groom and the guests getting more and more frustrated as we packed down and loaded out, got out of there…etc as it was really bad.
Hopefully the last wedding gig for a while after 3 of them in two and a bit weeks.
Unfortunately it’s a box type device that some Venues have installed, that’s connected to yours or the venues PA and has a microphone inside. Please explain the noise limiter as I've never heard of this?
There's a guy at one of the open mics that holds up a yellow card if the band is too loud. We've gotten that a few timesUnfortunately it’s a box type device that some Venues have installed, that’s connected to yours or the venues PA and has a microphone inside.
An example of one is below. You can tell when you’re close to the limit by looking at the colour display.

If you hit the decibel limit and that venue has set and stay at that for a pre set amount of time then it cuts everything out and it needs to reset again to allow use of the PA.
At this venue it was 100db, which the DJ after us kept hitting, much to everyone’s frustration.
You can just see it on my photo of the room on the wall next to the fireplace, just to the left of the chandelier.
If you keep an eye on the display as you play it’s normally not an issue, but they are a pain regardless.
I can see it now. "I only come here to drink 2 bud heavies, harass these so called 'musicians', and tip the bartender with my pocket change."There a guy at one of the open mics that holds up a yellow card if the band is too loud. We've gotten that a few times
