Recurrent issue I'm having last several weeks and it's getting worse. Create new thread. Go back and edit. Save doesn't work. It's inconsistent. Was there a release of new code or version? Seems when goto Edit it is sometimes invoking a set of code that lacks the ability to save. May be a...
Well actually a UPS truck.
If you read my posts and threads and responses, you know I like thin shells. And lite weight shells. Partly because of ease of transport, and also the sound. They're my sound. Musical. A bit of ring and nice decay. Easily controlled and manipulated with head choice vs...
Lucky to have a working pro drummer in Louisville - Max Maxwell - investing his time talents and $treasure$ in a new shoppe in Louisville area (across the river in Jeffersonville IN). And, check out his Sonor Vintage kit. In these pics that kits is just drop-dead gorgeous.

Lived with it all my life, but never much of an issue at actual live gigs. Snares on my rack buzz when bands come over to practice even with snares off (the ones that snares barely touch reso when vertical on rack). But last nite at speakeasy gig my Sakae Beech snare buzzed all nite, ignited by...
HEADS UP - the Tama 50th Limited Mastercraft Artwood snares with wood Inlays are on sale now. And it has an interior old-school muffler. Full contact snares. Made in Japan, too!!!
Sweetwater has them for $599. That's about 50% off. Not sure why so discounted. Not selling well? Excess...
In my endeavors to put together the lightest weight kit possible to care for my can't-be-fixed back, here is what I'm now using.
Bass drum (yeah bass mostly used for jazz but if you're a rocker or otherwise it's a kick drum lol) is a Canopus Yaiba. It's pretty light - for some reason almost...
Using my new Yamaha Crosstown aluminum HH stand last weekend and couldn't find the rod. I had a spare DW stand. Problem was the Yamaha clutch that comes with their stand that was on my top hat doesn't fit the DW rod. Good thing I had a good-ole cheap standard diameter clutch in my bag.
The...
Last Saturday, I cannot for life of me find my Yamaha Crosstown HH stand rod when setting up at our speakeasy gig. I have a new cymbal bag (Zildjian bag wore out after 10 years the zippers broke) and I am sure it's in my new bag somewhere, but I cannot find it. I drive home (only 10 minutes...
As I posted earlier this year, some permanent severe back issues are forcing me to take different gigs and to lighten my gear. We have a regular gig at a speakeasy where I only use snare/hats/toms. But there will be some gigs coming up that require toms and sometimes a bass drum (kick for you...
I'm watching tariff situation closely. With 125% "temporary" tariff on Chinese goods, I am wondering if that might have a "temporary" positive effect on Canadian retailers of non-commodity items like drums.
Are the tariffs based on COI (Country of Origin), or where they land? Such that, new...
I am using wire brushes on about 75% of what our jazz combo plays these days. I have been using DW heads (clear heads with white dampening coatings on perimeter) but they seem to get damaged easily with the wire brushes. I'm seeing tiny cuts and holes in the heads.
Anyone else have this issue...
Need a single tom stand. Man they're expensive.
Anyway, do you know if these stands have 10.5mm L arms? I need it to work with Tama RIMS mounts.

I see several Turkish hat pairs for sale on Reverb with the bottom hat flat no bell. What is the purpose of using a flat no bell cymbal as your bottom hat.
I've been trying small-ish hats like 12" and 13". No problem when I use sticks. But when using brushes (which I do a lot) hitting top hat sets the bottom off wobbling a bit because top vibrates a lot more with brush than stick, and then the top hat vibrates and they start clanging against each...
Playing with brushes. The diameter is so small that when playing with brushes they vibrate so much the top wobbles and hits the bottom hat causing a very undesirable clanging. Not a problem with sticks. Jus brushes.
Advice?
Not sure if a maple Pi tunes the same as a cherry Pi. Or birch (would that taste like bark?). Not sure if they make a walnut. They do make a carbon fiber version - would that be crunchy? I am not sure.
Ok ok ok enough of the metaphors. I'm riding high on mega steroids plus gabapentin to treat...
I see vintage Slingerland and other kits fairly frequently with toms built with no bottom lugs, so as to be used as what we call "concert toms". No reso heads.
I always had idea concert toms were those sets of 4 or 6 toms on stands played without a kit and with mallets like how I played them in...
