This Makes Me Angry

OMG THE HORROR!!!

Just kidding.... my word, it's a drum kit, not a 400 year old Stradivarius. Also - is even one square inch of the drums, rims or lugs actually touch the concrete??? Depending on the positioning of the spurs, very likely not.

And as others have stated - they're his drums. Modern - produced in a factory - by the hundreds - drums.
The flip side to this is that it’s an Ayotte, and those who know, know. If it were a Yamaha Stage Custom or a DW Collector’s, yeah, I’d agree—who the frick cares?!?!?

The Stradivarius comment is an interesting one. Ray didn’t mass produce kits in a factory—he was an independent custom builder for the first part of his career, which are considered the “good” drum sets. By some speculations/estimations, Ray Ayotte may have made less than 1,000 kits during his time running the company (early 80s through 1999), as he mostly made snare drums to order. By comparison, Stradivarius made about 1,100 violins. Plus, how many of Ray’s kits were made with the matching wood hoops? And, how many of those are still in decent condition, like the one in this photo appears to be? So, when somebody gasps and clutches their pearls at the sight of an Ayotte on the concrete without a drum rug underneath it, the pain felt is visceral and real.

…but, of course, this could be a post-Ray-era Ayotte kit, and therefore wouldn’t matter. We just don’t know. 🤣🤣🤣

And yet again, I ponder if any of this maybe precious, or maybe not precious, drum kit is touching the concrete at all.

The hoops are clearly off the ground - meaning there’s 5 points of contact - the two woofer spur feet, the two bass drum spur feet and the bass drum pedal.

Not seeing the problem - regardless of the kit’s pedigree.

Same! I don't get all the stress. I mentioned it at the beginning of the thread, but 🤷🏽‍♂️.
