I as surprised at how fat the Vistalite kit is with the stock clear silver dot heads . They are resonant with ample attack too . The bass drum really doesn’t need any laundry in it . I had installed a DW pillow in this bass drum but it just killed too much resonance . I switched it for a felt strip on the. After and the bass sounds fantastic now .

Yes there are Vistalite snares .

Very cool, fellow bass player moonlighting on drums! I remember you once mentioned you were going to get a new set. Is this it?

Also, what’s the heads and how are they?

Thanks, it is the same kit, starter shells with upgraded hardware to all Tama and the snare to a Gretsch Brooklyn Standard. Heads are all Evans Onyx. I like them, but have nothing but 15 year old started kit heads to compare them to. I do love the Speed Cobra beater and hat stand. Some day I'll get some Gretsch USA shells 😁

That Speed King's been with me since the early 70s/-74 Rock wars. It's perfect still.
Miracle. I retired it in 74 and just brought it back out for this kit.
If that ain't blessed I don't know what is well I still have a Ghost somewhere...hmm.
(I know exactly where it is... I'm not going that far back)

thinking about the cYmbals @Elvis - the A's represent my first cymbals before when I even knew cymbals were more than 'a target', and the Paiste represents the Euro drummers I've liked from even way back Bonham up thru the John Marshall's and Jon Christensens, and the old Ks well I guess partially they represent the global internet without the internet around 1998 I'd have never known heard or even seen an old K

;) so it's funny but it's been a path those cymbals up there

The "futures" are so painful for you, they had to be covered up! Poor little Bosphies. :ROFLMAO:

BTW, in the pics above...I really appreciate how you have everything pulled in nice and snug. Very ergonomic...no overreaching or over extending the arms to hit something. So important to take note of and to go ye therefore and do likewise.:)
 
I brought the smaller 14x5 Supraphonic for tonight's gig. The Vistalites are such a great kit for gigging. Even indoor gigs in rooms where you'd think they would be too loud, they are in fact, not too loud, and sound great.

I remember playing a clear set at a jam session once and was surprised at how warm yet present they sounded. Even at this moment I lust after a set seeing Wolfgang Van-Halen playing a blue 4 piece maybe two floors kit on YouTube. Your jelly bean set looks fabulous.
 
think the first Pat Metheny Group white album was all vistalite
I'd like to play a set these days too

And, I'd guess, they get people who normally don't care much about drums pretty excited. Am I wrong? Have you ever noticed a difference versus when you bring a different kit?

That is the perfect description of what Vistalites sound like! Warm yet present, aka Warmth + Projection. That combination is rare. In fact, I can't think of any other drums that have those attributes.

They aren't "loud" per se. They have a reputation for being loud, but that's not entirely accurate. I often think of loud drums as being brash, but they are not brash at all.

The toms cut through the mix, but not in a loud and obnoxious way. They have a ton of warmth.

I've played these Vistalites on a quieter bluesy gig featuring an acoustic guitar and upright bass and they fit perfectly. Vistalites are much more versatile than one would think!

Had a clear set of Vistas for a minute a few years ago. Sheesh, I think I should make a list of brands/models I HAVEN’T owned. Played several gigs and recorded a couple of sessions with them. You’re not missing anything really - they sound just like drums. :cool:

You’d have especially dug the bass drum treatment I employed at this gig. :rolleyes: I remember having the bass drum wide open with clear heads and no muffling except the PS3 batter and someone (big picture guy) freaking out about it, so I gave him 1000% the opposite direction. :ROFLMAO: Went from Bonham to the guy in Pablo Cruise in about three minutes. Ha!
