Total opposite to my usual style

Recently got hold of this lively 80s effort from an old tape our guitarist had for 20 years. It's a cross between punk, metal and RnR, I guess - a far cry from my old lounge unit.

If you can overlook the rough sound, my dodgy tempo and the vocalist's dodgy everything, there's some killer guitar and bass playing. It used to go down well at gigs.

It's great to dig up old stuff, even if the recordings are rough. As you know, all my stuff was stolen in 1992 :( :( :(

I like the vibe :) I especially like the drums & bass pickup at 2:05 & the guitar madness/fretwankery later on.

I like it Grea, it's rocking, I can see why it was a killer on stage back then, yep the guitarist has some deadly licks and sounds, you're not doing too bad either, how did you manage high energy tracks like this for one and half hour, you must have been knacked at the end of your gigs :)

Mid 80's eh? it's the time I moved away from rock music while you were still rocking your a** off (excuse my french), but I would like my next band to be a "rock" outfit.

That's a ton of energy, really kicking a**!

I'll let my ignorance show by asking this, but is this an original?

I'm far from an expert on the genre but hear a lot of that grunge/punk/hard driving stuff that was happening back then.

Like Andy said, it's a blast unearthing old recordings. I recently stumbled on a few myself.

This is my favorite thing you've posted. Rockin that kit!

Whoa, that's cool! I love the drive and the rhythmic twists. Pretty smokin' guitar playing, too, especially the noise stuff. Too bad the drums aren't up in the 'mix' as much as the guitar but you're definitely locked in tight with the bass line and serving the song well. Nice work! :)

That was pretty rocking actually. Good energy and riffs.

Thanks for listening, guys. Over and above the call of duty :)

@ Mike and Andy, I really miss the tightness and time feel of that bassist - always great to play with. Andy, it's a shame you lost the old recordings - it's like losing valued old photos.

@ Henri, yep it was hard yakka. I would struggle to play like that today.

@ David, yup, it's an original. Agree that it's cool to unearth old forgotten tracks ... can be cringeworthy too ...

This will be my last blast from the past. From here on it will be all onwards and downwards!

Polly, I love this. Rockin' out, raw and gritty, power and energy. I love your playing on this and the guitars are killer. The whole band sounds really good. Garage rock FTW!

Nice to hear some of this old loud stuff we're always hearing about! I like the atmosphere.

This is why I pay no attention when you self deprecate. I love your playing because you make it feel right. You have an excellent sense of the right tempo, and you execute it without rushing or dragging things, it feels like it's supposed to.
Your time feel is spot on. Pretty cool stuff, that still holds up. Don't you miss this stuff? Good guitar work, he's pretty commanding. He makes it work because you make it work. Work it girl!

Yes indeed Larry, the rhythm section is spot on and provide the road for the guitar to drive along, I'm sure Grea miss this stuff from time to time.

It's true, lads - I DO miss rocking out and I miss the musicianship of that band, and I miss being able to play like that myself ... I compensated for homespun technique with energy - youthful energy.

Larry, there's a couple of spots where I sped up noticeably but it's no biggie in gung ho RnR, it seemed almost compulsory for a while ...

That was a lot of fun to listen to. Great playing, Grea! And thanks for helping me pick up the tempo while I'm on my treadmill this morning :)

Thanks Mary - I imagine you would have been running on the treadmill!

Andy, I admit that I'm torn - I know I'm ready for a change from my current band but I'm not sure what I want from another band - I definitely want more energy and groove than my current crew provides but not full on rock, and not at all commercial ...

Don't force it Grea, It'll come to you eventually. If you're thinking of branching out, I take it you'll also be staying with the BM"s?
