Ozzy is gone...

yeah...this is not hitting as hard as losing Neil Peart because of how Rush defined my life

but Ozzy was a pretty big foundation of my developmental years for sure. I lost interest after Ultimate Sin, but still just respect the hell out of what he did for the genre that defines my life. I was in 5th grade when Blizzard of Ozz came out, and it was one of the life changing albums for me for sure

didn't his health issues start 20 years ago...?..

I think they started in '72 or 73 with the immersion in drinking and drugs....

Damn...this sucks. So soon after the farewell concert too. All the icons seem to be leaving us.

I'm glad he hung in there for the last show. His last gift to us all. Thanks, Ozzy!!

It's safe to say there will NEVER be another one like him.

we are at that age....it is crazy!!!

Ozzy will be greatly missed!
Black Sabbath was one of my early musical influences . Used to jam sabbath tunes with my guitarist brother ( passed on 2001) all the time . Ozzy’s passing brings up a lot of memories of my brother . He was three years older than I and turned me on to a lot of the music I listened to and played and still do to this day. He’d talk my mother into allowing him to bring me along to concerts, one of which ( and there weee many ) and I believe was my first big show at 14 years old ( can’t remember as there were a lot ) was the Black and Blue show at Nassau coliseum ( 1980) which was recorded and put out in 81.
Bittersweet feelings as my brothers passing was July of 2001. All good things come to an end but our memories live on especially ( for me) the ones involving music .

cool post dude! Shows A LOT about music can bring people together, and then create foundational bonds that last asfter the yare gone. I am sorry that you lost your brother, but it really made me think about how lucky we are to create bonds like you mention.

mine is with my dad - who is still with us, but probably for not much longer. When Dave Brubeck passed, it really shook him, and me, becasue Brubeck is who he used to teach me how to play drums, and also just experience music. Brubeck and Joe Morello were hid big idles after Krupa.

I know your brother is up there playing with Oz and Randy now!!!

That was over 20 years ago. It's unlikely that had much to do with it.

One might as well blame it on snorting ants...
Well from the snorting of the ants to the four wheeler accident and every sordid episode before, in between, and after it's safe to say Ozzy lasted a lot longer than many expected.

it is more scary to me that Keith Richards outlasted Ozzy.....

In his book Heaven and Hell, My Time With The Eagles, Don Felder recounts the time he was brought up to a hotel room to meet Keith Richards. When they went in the room the Glimmer Twin was nowhere to be found. As they were going to leave they spotted a leg sticking out from behind a sofa. They moved the sofa and there was Keith. According to Felder he was grey and looked to be dead or very near it. Don was quickly whisked from the room. The rest of the day he waited for the announcement of Keith's demise and cancellation of that evenings Stones concert. To a stunned Felder the announcement never came and sure enough there was Keith on stage that night wailing away.

Rush defined my life too

so i am in the process of writing the drum music for my high school band, and I snuck in a few things from Diary Of A Madman in the front ensemble part this week that just happened to fit our music. I told the kids about it, and they thought it was cool. They are used to me doing that because I also sneak in what I call "the Rush chord" and references to the intro of Run To The Hills as well
