Help me find “nylon” [small] barrel tip sticks

I’m aware of Steve Gadd and Dave Weckl nylon tip sticks that have the barrel shape. But I am looking for sticks that have smaller tips than those, like a Vater 8A tip size, for instance. I have an old pair of Regal Tip 8A nylon tips and I love them. Looking for something close to that.

I am open to various size sticks though, just as long as the tips are on the smaller side and are either maple or hickory. I have read some people mentioning small barrel tip nylon tip sticks but can’t seem to find any from the big manufacturers, so hopefully someone can point me to those that may exist that I missed. Thanks!

I've never seen small nylon tip sticks before. My guess is that it's a logistical nightmare to glue tiny tips to a tiny piece of wood.

There's not enough strength or surface area for the glue to attach them securely.

You may be right about that. But Regal Tip, back in the good old days, used to make their 8A nylon tip sticks with the very same dimensions as their 8A wood tip version. I have a pair in very good condition, in spite of them being decades old. I'm a light player and I can usually make my sticks last. If I had known back then that they would become completely obsolete I would have grabbed a bunch.

Hi jda. I assume that Promark haven't made those in quite a while, correct? I see them on Amazon as "currently unavailable."

and they became an Evelyn Glennie model wood tip only cue :sad trombone.. @Ruok

I was just looking at these and thought about trying them. .63 diameter, long taper and barrel tip.

The rebound line (I have the 2b promark rebound), feels good in the hand. Tip is too bulky though so it has its limits.

I feel like I've seen something like this before, I'll have to dig around. It may have been vater. Maybe the sweet ride?

It’s difficult to determine the size of the tip, but today I found Vater 3As with what they call a “rounded” barrel nylon tip. I might like those.

While I don't use nylon tips I can definitely relate to the shape. I like thin sticks, around 7a size, with a small round tip. I can work with barrel but I prefer round. Vater Manhattan 7a and sweet ride are my favorite sticks but I buy Sound Percussion 7a very often because they are the same specs and tip shape as the Manhattan 7a but substantially cheaper. I buy bricks of 4 pairs for usually $15-$18. I'm actually still working on the last brick I bought probably two years ago. One pair went to my ekit, the first pair that went to my acoustic kit got tossed (not broken, just worn out), I've still got some life left in the next pair, and have an unused pair on deck. I probably won't need sticks again until next year.

I don't really break sticks but the only downside to small round tips is that they do start to get flat spots.

Like many of us do, I go through phases with sticks. I at one point was into the Manhattan 7A as well. Right now I'm in love with the V.F. SD2 Bolero with its small round tip. Overall I prefer Maple over Hickory, but not always. I mostly like wood tip sticks, but there are those times I definitely want the nylon sound.

Those bolero sticks are really cool! It's been probably twenty years since I held a pair. They are a bit thick for my preference but the maple composition makes them very light in the hand.
