Gator ICON cymbal bag. This bag is really nice compared to my basic Humes & Burg galaxy bag I've been using that offers very little protection. I keep thinking about a strap breaking and my cymbals hitting the concrete with literally no padding. So I found an open box deal $193 with tax it was $208 regular price is $239
Couldn’t help myself. Since I’ve been riding this heavier cymbal vortex for awhile now, my 18” Thin Flat hasn’t had quite enough gravitas for fickle ol’ me. I came to the conclusion that I “needed” something a bit thicker and juicier. Funny how the afflicted (addicted?) can talk themselves into anything.
Gerry had this nice 20” Medium Flat available at a decent enough price so I went for it. Y’all will recognize the Hazelshould rug immediately. Just a shade under 2300g. Looking forward to pairing it with my vintage 20” Heavy, 17” Medium and 15” SE hats.
I guess I’ll stick the 18” Thin Flat in my second cymbal bag that houses my 20” Medium, 17” Thin Crash and a second set of 15” SE hats. No telling when I’ll use any of those as I’m loving my heavier cymbals at the moment, but as sure as I type this I know I’ll swing back around at some point. It’ll be nice to have a bag of lighter stuff to play with at that time.
From a recent visit at Drummer's Journey in Moorhead, MN, I picked up an Ahead Wicked Chops practice pad. I think the "wicked" part may be related to how much potential this thing has to make you say words that are not nice.
Found matching 12" and 16" toms recently, for the kit I posted about here; now the kit is complete! 10/12/13/16/22/14s. It's been my rehearsal kit for about 6 months in 10/13/16 config (new/old stock 16" wood/fiberglass reissue in matching finish, that I'll now sell).
My new INDe 22 x 10” Kalamazoo aluminum bass drum arrived today. It will allow me to go between this or the 20 x 10” bass drum I already had with my Wayfarer kit. The Cat loves the box it came in.
I promised myself to not get another kit but I couldn't pass this up. My Slingerland dating skills are rusty, but I'm assuming late 60s early 70s? 14x22,9x13 16x16. Original wrap, no cracks in wrap anywhere, Wrap is tight. Original wrap on bass drum hoop inlays. No seam separation in shells or re-rings. Perfect interiors. 3 ply with re-rings clear lacquer. No extra holes in shells. Tunes up perfectly.
$600.
Seems to be a museum piece.
I bought a used Pearl Masters Reserve kit, ordered from a shop. Got the rack tom and the floor tom, the bass drum is on its way, arriving Monday. 13x9, 16x14, 24x14. Yellow-ish finish, I think it's called light amber. Pleasant.
I missed out on one of these a few weeks ago, a kit in more typical jazz sizes. Not this time.
Gibraltar Airtech Skinny Throne. I’ve seen mixed reviews of these, with some doubting how sturdy and comfy they are.
I’m possibly of the lighter persuasion (6ft 3, 80 kg wet through!) so maybe not the best to judge but it’s the comfiest stool I’ve ever owned, I’ve probably owned 20 in my time. The seat itself is amazing, feels like a gel seat, and seems to be memory foam too or maybe I’m imagining it.
Another big plus for me is it’s lightweight. I know a lot of you recommend roc n soc but I needed something lightweight yet good quality. A lot of my gigs I’m having to trail gear through town, or sometimes take some on the bus (a mile and a half to the nearest bus stop!) so everything has to be as light as possible. I use crosstown hardware too.
