    Post your Gig Pics

Playing at a small airport in Kansas. The runway was maybe only100 yards away or closer. One plane flew by 2 or 3 times leaving a smoke trail just a few feet off the ground.

    Is there a hardware device

I've looked for something like that before and asked on forums but I didn't come up with anything. I think with today's technology that should be available.

    Amp for Kick triggers?

Buy a used drum amp. I have a 200 watt Simmons, I paid $120 for it. It should work fine for rehearsals.

What is this mount point in my 60s Stewart bass drum?

I think I still have one of those in my drum junk box. I just remember it came off a kick that was given to me in 1977. I don't remember a brand name on it.

    Aquarian heads!

I've always loved SK1 with a regulator on the front ported. I've also used super 2 Tom heads clear on a high-end Yamaha Birch kit and they sounded great. Right now, the only Aquarian head I have is a super 2 coated on a 16 inch floor Tom, and it sounds real good.

    Smaller crash cymbals

I've read that smaller thin cymbals record better. Having said that, my band went into a studio in the 80s and the 14" Paiste 2000 really sounds exceptional on those recordings. I think my other crashes were 16" A Zildjian thin or med thin and a 18" Paiste 2002, I think it was just labeled...

Drum volume: Online vs. Real life

We have a lot of acoustic duos and single acts going on in my area (Kansas) too. I have a Cajon but it's very hard on my back and I'm not very good at it. My son-in-law made it for me. I wish my classic rock band would turn down just a little.

    Popularity of slightly shorter sticks?

I like sticks that are slightly longer than standard 5A sticks. Maybe because I have a short reach.

Video: Why Musicians Still Get Paid Like It’s 1975

I basically started a family at 17 old, I played in a band that had just started up and I was a welder in small shop building trailer frames. Had I not started a family and pursued music it probably would have ended bad for me, due to drugs and just being an idiot. I retired after 46 years of...

Video: Why Musicians Still Get Paid Like It’s 1975

My bands start negotiating from around $1,200-$1,500 as a result we turn down a lot of gigs. A lot of people think they can hire us for a few hundred dollars. At 65 years old and playing for 55 years, I don't want to play for $50.

    Matching Cymbals to Drum Sets

For rock I use 20 KC dark ride, 19 K dark thin, 18 K dark med thin and 17 A thin with 14 new beats. I have 3 drum sets ( birch, birch/ mahogany, and maple/poplar) but it's...

    Matching Cymbals to Drum Sets

Don't feel bad. I played the drums for about 45 years before I ever had any extra cymbals or any choices other than what was on my kit. Today, after 55 years of playing, I have 6 crashes, 2 hats and 3 rides to choose from. It's been a long time coming.
