unpopular opinion about modern recordings

'Good music' artists don't get paid for your streams. Your streams are assigned to the most streamed artists on the platform. That's one of the issues with Spotify. A lot of people are now abandoning Spotify.
Apple Music - artists are paid I believe? Regardless, the days of records and CDs are long past.

Didn't L'il Nas break the streaming algorithm by publishing 60-second tunes?

Concept albums will return. Maybe not in my lifetime, but they'll be back someday.

Radio Station DJ's would sometime promote a song they liked
which in turn turned it national what's the equivalent of that human disc jockey today

Except it isn't the truth. Is it really possible that all the best music has been produced and nothing of worth will be produced in the future?

If so, how lucky that you were alive at the point in the history of the entire universe when [fill in your favorite bands] were active!
Very Lucky!

I think I’m going to have to be the one to break it to you all…

1. Musicians very often dislike pop music. Old musicians often hate everything made after they turned 30.

2. There’s plenty of skilled musicians playing interesting pop music and having hits. You guys just like focusing on the negative.

3. You won’t like anything new regardless of what it is. If they sound like old stuff, they’re imitators. If they sound different, then they don’t respect your favorite music. Therefore…

4. They don’t care what you think.

so the answer is never grow past 30?
two songs for that
'Forever Young" Rod
and Hope I die before I get old "MY Gen" who

no. After 40 music starts to become nostalgia and the best of it stays as an endless challenge

Agreed on her ability. Now compare that to what she sells.
Is it my favorite music in the world? No. But she’s written plenty of hits that people love.

You know, this thread reminds me of a quote Mick Jones from Foreigner once said, and I paraphrase: “People put us down for writing hit songs, but it’s a lot harder to write a hit than one that isn’t. Anyone can write music that doesn’t sell.”

And just like that, I quit putting pop music down. Didn’t mean I bought Foreigner 4, but he was 100% on the money.

And there’s a quote I got from a guy who played bass in the only polka band in a 4 state radius and made a very good living with it: “There’s good money in playing music that musicians hate.”
