Leaving bands

For the last four years I have been the full-time drummer for two bands. One of which I started with my brother and a long time friend and the other ("Rewind") I stumbled into kind of randomly after their long time drummer had to step away for health reasons. All of the members of Rewind are in a different season of life than I am. They are all 60+ years old (I am 38) and enjoying retirement and empty nests. My two boys are 9 and 7 and getting busier by the day. I do really enjoy playing with Rewind a lot. The set has expanded my abilities and really made me a better overall player. Also, it is SO much fun playing with a full horn section. But, I have been running myself ragged in the last year to make it to rehearsals and gigs and put in the necessary practice on my own time while also doing the same for my other band while also being there for all of the things my boys have going on. I had to miss a soccer tournament a few months ago and I decided at that point that I was done. We don't get second chances to watch our kids grow up and I will not miss anything else for either of them for a gig. As much as I love it, it is a hobby and a side hustle for me. It isn't putting food on the table or making mortgage payments for me. We have 5-6 gigs in the next 4 months and I am staying on for all of those unless they are able to find a replacement in that time which I doubt will happen. The local guys (that are well-known anyway) that can easily take the gig are all already in multiple bands. My band mates were all super cool about it and told me I was making the right decision and thanked me for giving them notice and staying on for the upcoming gigs, etc. I still have my band to play and write original stuff with and we are about to start tracking our original stuff in my home studio so I will have plenty of outlets for my drumming and artistic side. Actually really looking forward to getting more into recording and mixing and enhancing my skill sets in those areas.
