Night Fever Drum Track - which hats?

Dennis Bryon's drum track. The cymbals sound like 602s to me but I'm no Paiste expert. What do you think these hats are? I may be joining a disco band and I always pursued this sound for that.

There are some AI artifacts. For the skeptical, the little drum oopsy at 3:15 is there. This is also the track they looped, I believe during the bridge, for Stayin' Alive and a bunch of other songs(!)

So which hats?

Think getting the "attitude" would be as important; It's like if you had- by some occurrence- the exact cymbals of his and for some reason they didn't speak or sit right with you and you were more comfortable with your own- you'd be better off using your own!

those studio pictures show the big tom blonde Gretsches but can't see simbols and he's was never asked or detailed his cymbals except according to search engine chatGT in the later years...

I'm not a Paiste expert either but I sometimes play one here... I gotta say there is a hint of that Paiste sparkle in those hats. You might be onto something...

It's hard to tell how much studio treatment is going on in the recording but if those hats are Paiste, I'd say they sound a little closer to 2002 Medium Hats...not the SE version.

There’s a short article on Dennis Bryon in Modern Drummer Dec. 2017 issue. It never mentions his specific cymbals, other than this statement…

“Bryon has played Zildjian cymbals and Remo drumheads throughout his entire career. “

Although we can’t know for sure from that sentence, I would guess the hats on those tracks were most likely New Beats.

New Beats would be my guess too but I’d use Quick Beats because that’s what I own. Also, iirc Night Fever uses the exact same drum loop as Stayin Alive which itself was taken from another Bee Gees song.

I'd bring it into 2026 with maybe a cracked-split old K top..
or a 13' over a 14"..
funk it up a bit retaining the same feel
Even if Bryon were alive today he'd be using something different

That doesn't mean he didn't use those exclusively in the studio, just like any other drummer with an endorsement deal.

However, New Beats are an excellent guess. I hear those are pretty popular...😉

New Beats too bright too bland for me..
If it has to be A's I prefer the earlier matched weights and even then new beat weights in K's

I think Dennis....really just knew how to get them hats to groove. Whatever brand they may have been.
He must have done good.....they used that hat track another 4 times.
I think his feel....was fantastic.

I hear Paiste in there … well balanced in the mix and crystal clear.
I think Terry nails it. He’s pretty darn good with the real stuff , best I’ve known. 602 never disappoint.

matched weight
883/905 are my 14s made prior to my getting them- as a kid- used in 68
New Beats were Louie couldn't be heard in larger halls so he helped devise with Armand the much heavier bottom
- bottom were always a touch 50g heavier for a higher pitch as pick matched by the testers- new beat just expounded-pounded on that idea'r'
