How to keep time for intro of EWF's In The Stone?

Seems you may be misquoting mashwack. Rather than "not feeling the main pulse" (not feeling the main pulse), mashwack wrote, "can't NOT feel where the main pulse is". Which I take to mean the pulse is so thoroughly in you due to your practicing that it is automatic, you always feel the main pulse.
My bad.. It's a 'double negative'. Thanks for clarifying.
Count the beat right after the hits-- 1e& 2, 1 a2. It feels wrong because those are long notes, but you won't be losing track of the beat. Do that for awhile, then you can drop counting the 2.
Yes, that's been my goal - feeling the durarion of different types of notes appropriately, as i often struggle with syncopated stuff. Got it. Thanks.

I love this song. I like challenging songs. The timing at the beginning can be off-putting, but this chart is great for studying. The way I have been navigating is just listening to it, playing and replaying it until I can get it. I'm also going to chart it out.

Although missing two tom hits in bar 14 (not counting count-in). Still excellent though.
