Ludwig acrolite black Galaxy 6.5"

I desperately want to like Ludwig - but twice now (years apart) I have gone out with cash in hand to get a black beauty - first one had a blemish on the shell and the second one the badge was on crooked. I pointed it out to the store owner and he said 'yep - that's Ludwig for ya!'
On what is meant to be their top legacy name, "the most famous snare drum ever' that level of poor QC has put me off everything Ludwig.
Did those BB's happen to be B-stock?

Nope - full price top line A stock (supposedly)

I have seen pictures of B stock Black Beauties with both the Green/Blue badge and the Keystone badge. So, the type of badge itself is NOT an indication that the snare is A or B stock. This is what I have found out so far:

Look at badge and see if it has an engraved serial number. If it has an engraved serial number, then it is an A stock.
In recent years, Ludwig decided to put the serial number on a sticker inside the shell. If it has that sticker then, it is an A stock.

@heartbeat can probably confirm this since she is pretty knowledgeable about Ludwig snares.

B-stock shouldn't have any serial number, either on the badge or on a sticker. I don't think I've ever seen a B-stock with a keystone badge - typically they use a B/O badge (no serial number, sometimes cut). However, you CAN have an A-stock with a B/O badge -- serial number would either be engraved (older) or on a sticker inside the shell (newer).
