I'm Never Buying Drumheads Again

I RepLaced a bass batter after 15 years only because i wanted an emad and a friend used my kit and pitted most of the heads and almost broke the kick because he doesnt know how to play. so ill probably never buy another kick head

and that friend would never be touching my kit again either.....

when I bought the Aqua Satin Flame 20/12/16 RB set this summer it had Evans heads on top of the three drums.
Just by chance a local CL fella was selling 20/12/16 near new Remo Fiberskyn heads.
Now I have 3 near new Evans G2 heads I will never ever use tucked away.

I see "high" Canadian prices vs here in the US but I don't know anything about conversion rate. Is it ACTUALLY more expensive in Canada or does it simply appear that way when you look at Canadian dollars vs US dollars on paper?
It's generally the exchange rate that is responsible for the higher prices in Canada, otherwise prices are pretty similar. We seem to be getting gouged more often now as retailers use inflation as an excuse but that should end with the next market crash, whenever that happens.

Fellow Canuck here. I read the "outrageous" prices our USA friends complain about and think to myself "that actually sounds pretty good!" 😄

I probably spend $500 or more per year on drum heads but I like to experiment so it isn't out of necessity, it's a curiosity thing. I've got the tuning thing handled so the difference that heads make is readily apparent. I'll probably slow down some this year since I have a "bank" of hardly used heads to draw from, now.
I swear I have a Sweetwater box every 3 days. One's coming today! Mostly heads. And I experiment a LOT with snares. Probably have tried 8 different ones on my DW Collectors, and I don't like ANY of them.

Sure! And the heretofore 32 oz "quart" of mayonnaise will find the 2 oz that have somehow disappeared. (Yeah, a quart of mayonnaise is now 30 oz.) And the 4x8 ft sheet of 1/2 inch CDX plywood will drop from 43 USD back to about 12 USD. Just like the price for trash removal service dropped back to 2008 prices when the gasoline/diesel prices dropped from almost $5.00.

Don't count on it...

I'm picking up new heads for my Renowns today. 10-12-14 Ambassador Vintage Coated for slightly under $103, taxes included. How does that compare to US prices?

I recently broke my bass batter head and, when I checked out what a 22" drumhead costs today, I just put my reso on the batter side. Yeah, I'm into concert toms/bass now.

103 is high even for Canada... that's double US prices.
Yeah, something isn't right. Three years ago, things like this would have cost about 30% more, not 100% more. We're being gouged for sure. Prices are the same on the Amazon Canada site so it's not just brick and mortar retailers who are taking advantage.

This next comment far exceeds my geopolitical knowledge but I wonder if it has something to do with import tariffs

In China they seem to be neither rising nor falling. Some less common sizes (such as 6" and 15") still tend to be out of stock. New local companies have emerged to fill the void, though, and they tend to be more affordable than Attack or Code.

I think it will all work out when the USA brings back manufacturing; I mean that’s the goal.

Meet the new American factory worker.

If they can make cars they can make drum heads and cheap like they used to be with exacting quality control minus all that human error.
