Where do you live?

There's even an island off Virginia that kept its Cornish accent! (At least into the 1970s)
They sound incredibly Cornish too! With just a sprinkling of words with a southern US drawl.
Very similar to the Harker's Island "down east" brogue spoken in my home county (Carteret co.) in North Carolina.

Wow, that's gorgeous! Are the beaches crowded? Water warm enough to get in without a wetsuit in the summer? (Gulf stream?) Is there a surfing culture there?
Hi man 🙂
The beaches can get busy in the school summer holidays - but May/ June/ Sep/ Oct can be amazingly quiet.
Definitely a surf culture! Was particularly epic here in the 90s. Best time of my life.
I surf without a wetsuit in summer whenever the weather's nice. It's always 'refreshing' - but definitely doable!

Loving that view!! I'm here in Westchester County, NY where we have some ancient History as well, but more Revolutionary War History (Sorry UK!). Lots of places where Washington stopped By in Rye, NY. In addition, there are many sites of Battle scenes as well in White Plains, Rye, etc. My area is a few miles west of the Long Island Township of Setauket - directly across the LI Sound. Lots of History there as well.
Enjoy Cornwall....
I once read that the difference between English and Americans is that English think 100 miles is a long distance and Americans think 100 years is a long time.

Are you gonna attend/watch this event?

Wilson, North Carolina is pretty sleepy & boring, and frankly, too redneck for me, but I know some great people here. Plus, it's about halfway between Raleigh/Durham (nearest metro area) and Greenville (my college town, lived there for 10 years during & post-college); Raleigh & G'ville are each about 40 minutes away. It's also 2 hours from Morehead City (my hometown at the coast) and Wilmington, and Nag's Head and Richmond VA are just a bit longer drive, so it's pretty centrally located to places I'd rather be.
Hey man, we’re sort of neighbors. I live in Clayton NC in Johnston Co.
Wilson boring? Naw, you guys have a bad ass Whirly Gig Park that we can’t get enough of lol!

Nicetameetcha! :D Let's have an eastern NC Drummerworld hang sometime! The only other person I know of on here who's close to us is @dwsabianguy - it would be a pretty small group hang. 😁 **EDIT: @heartbeat and @JimmyM are in the area.

Re: Whirlygig park - heh! On one hand, it's pretty cool that the city took on the project of relocating & repairing most of Vollis Simpson's... sculptures? Structures? 🤷‍♂️ and dedicated a city park to him/them, especially beginning the process while he was alive. (So he knew it was happening, but sadly, he died prior to its completion.) On the other hand, yes, the city needed to get away from the outdated tobacco identity, but Simpson's whirlygigs were an odd thing to hang its identity hat on. Do you know about the ballpark being build next door to the park and the Mudcats moving here from Zebulon and becoming the Wilson Warbirds? (Named after the region's history in aviation dating back to WWII and for Simpson, a former airman.)

Thanks for the info on the ball club becoming the Wilson Warbirds as I had no idea. My wife and I talked about eventually catching a Mudcat game. It is a shame Mr. Simpson couldn’t have been on hand to witness the opening of his Whirlygig Park.
Any clue as to when the ball park plans to open?
Yeah man sounds like a plan to meet up. Let me know!

Upstate New York, Saratoga county which has rampant development. It used to be very rural before route 87 (the Northway), came through in the mid 1960s. My band is two hours down state in the Montgomery and Middletown area so lots of driving but you do what you've got to do. It's a good folk rock band playing a lot of originals and we're getting some following. Looking to break into the music open mic scene around Albany, Cohoes, Troy and Saratoga. I have been reading chapters of a novel I'm writing at a Troy open mic and it's been well received.

This season will be the Mudcats' last in Zebulon. They're slated to begin as the Warbirds in Wilson in 2026.

I'm in Raleigh now & then and usually try to visit 2112 Percussion for various odds & ends that I can't find without special orders around here. We could meet up there sometime, or let me know next time you're heading over this way. 👍

I live in the middle of the second flattest state in the USA. The wind is virtually constant. Here's my little domain, surrounded by corn & soybean. I call it the Möbius Strip 'cuz the lifecycle repeats incessantly. This spring, I'm learning all about voles and I'm not having fun with them.
My hub's right behind you from the flat state of North Dakota.

I'm outside of Portland, Oregon now, but I just moved here last year from Austin. Doing a cross-country move with a full drum kit was way more stressful than I thought, but Long Distance Movers handled the gear better than some of my bandmates ever did. Everything arrived in solid shape, including my vintage snare that I was most nervous about.

I'm out in northern Vermont, close to the Canadian border. Lots of snow, quiet towns, and moose wandering around sometimes. Winters are rough, but it's peaceful and great for drum practice.

super jealous!!! That is heaven to me
