Dw 9000 Vs iron cobra 900, which is better?

So, I'm not looking for a new pedal or anything, I just wanted to see different opinions on the two pedals

to kick it off though, I like the IC better because of how well built it is, and the PG cam is smooth and responsive.

If you’re going to gig with it, go with the IC. The footboard folds up and down easily for set up and tear down. No tools required. The DW needs a drum key to lock the footboard in place. More work at gigs. If it’s mainly going to stay set up at one place, then it really doesn’t matter.

I tried the DW in stores but was comparing to the speed cobra and not the Iron Cobra. I didn’t spend any time adjusting the settings or anything like that but the DW felt heavy and sluggish. just the fact that so many people buy a 9000 DW makes me think that if I had bought one and tweaked out the settings I would probably like it just fine also.

well IMO, DWs would be better if they cam with a lighter beater, they come with that heavy dual-sided beater. cobras come with a lighter beater

Idk man the DWs are nice and has some nice features but they're overpriced (people say its it's because they're made in the USA, but i know they're made somewhere like Taiwan
Second hand is your friend ;)

This is probably not a popular take, but I just never liked the way DW pedals feel. I've had the 9000 and the 5000 as well as the one with the diamond plated steal footboard (it was trash and broke quickly, but very expensive).

Personally like the Tama Speed Cobra and Iron cobra better, but also thought the Pearl Redline Eliminator, & Yamaha Fp9 felt better to me. Im currently using a Trick V1Pro Big Foot and absolutely love it.

That said, the rest of my Hardware is DW9000 AL and I love it. just the bass pedal don't work for me

Owned both at the same time. Sold the IC as the DW is far better IMO.
I guess it all depends on your age as regards how you want a pedal to feel.
i’m 80 and play every day. I am typical for my age in that my legs are far from good shape. Over the years I’ve had several pedals, most of the economy variety. 5 years back I researched pedals as I wanted to spend good bucks for a good product. I was waiting for a knee replacement on my kick leg and the Yamaha chain drive I was using was hard on me no matter how I adjusted it. While going through reviews I noticed that the IC featured a unique footboard return spring. I read great things in reviews of the IC but nobody discussed it other than to say it was a gimmick. So I decided to order one from my favourite Canadian dealer. I chose the 900S as reviews said it’s faster, easier to play and less complicated than a chain drive. Then there is the fact that I’m a heel down player. So after shelling out $ 260.00 Canadian my pedal arrived in its nice carrying case. I was impressed with the myriad of adjustments (some say there are too many) and finally settled on the main spring just tight, the footboard spring in the high position and the beater located just back of center. I was able to play a 4 hour gig with very little discomfort. Last year I had that knee replaced and while it is a huge improvement it is not as flexible as the real McCoy. But no fear, my IC lets me play 4 hour gigs with no
discomfort whether it’s Rock (soft Rock that is) Jazz or... yes Country !
our Jazz trio consists of drums, Keyboard and Sax.. can’t find a Bass player that can do swing or Great American Songbook stuff ! So having a little experience playing one I understand the patterns so I play them in my kick and that means triplets and runs. My IC does it all for me without effort. Then there’s the fact that it’s built like a tank but attaches in an instant without skinned knuckles.
Just sayin

DW is built like a tank. Almost to a fault though in my opinion. They are a little heavy to play. Oh and the base plates warp notoriously after a while and they won’t sit flat on the floor. But they are smooth and well built. I sold my iron cobra after about 10 years of use and bought a new DW9000. Then sold the DW after 2 years and bought another IC. There is just something about the IC that feels way better to me. It lighter and does *exactly* what I want it to do.

Don't have an IC but I have an older Power Glide single with a double chain that looks a lot like it and an early DW 5000 Accelerator double. Love them both except I'll have to replace the hinges in the 5000 soon. But I can use them interchangeably as a single. I try to set them to feel close and I can do the job with either.

I have the IC900 double pedal. Solid stays in place no flex whatsoever. Smooth action and if you want an even better balance between both beaters, replace the shaft with a Trick P1V6P Retrofit Droveshaft, you won't regret the investment! The shaft that comes with the pedal is still a phenomenal piece of engineering. Just well built. Love the onboard Allen/drum key combo and the spring mount swivels at the bottom mount(chrome piece). This is in my opinion gives it that solid smooth feel. Accurate and fast. You can replace the beaters with some really nice options that also makes the pedal look sick! Can't go wrong with this pedal unless your super fast and need that 1k price tag pedal! To me this is perdy close and if your that good already, some adjustments and you can pull it off. Oh! Did I mention the Cobra coil? Under that thurr pedal, the coil sits! This coil helps to keep the pedal, for a better lack of better words, sucked to your foot so you are in total control. No unwanted play, it's built solid and feels like it should last at least 15 plus years easy in opinion.👍

i’ve had an IC 900s strap link single for 10 plus years and they really are smooth and brutally built with multi adjustments. The coil under the foot board does as you say, keep the pedal glued to your foot and being 84 and having had my kick (right) knee replaced takes all the stress off the knee. During Covid having nowhere to go and spend money I ordered a Trick Pro. V1 which cost $700 Canadian. While it was the smoothest pedal i’ve every used it was very bulky. The alligator clip that secures the pedal to the kick has a super tight spring that requires a ton of force to open it. At the time I had a 16in Sonor kick with a riser and no way would the pedal stay lined up at 90 degrees to the drum but tended to shift around. So I sold it for less than 1/2 price and stayed with my Iron Cobra. There’s a reason the IC 900 series consistently rates # 1-3 in best pedal category ratings.

I own Iron Cobra and DW, Both in twin and single but older models.
I prefer the lighter feel of the DW pedals and DW shaft of the twin pedal (5000) is better.

Build quality seems equal, both are reliable and spare parts are easy to get for both which is important too.

Haven’t used the DW, but just upgraded a 10 year old Iron Cobra to a new Speed Cobra. I’m very happy and it was cheaper than the DW

I had a DW5000 for years that eventually fell apart after a new hinge, a bit of welding, etc to repair it. I bought a second hand IC in 2011 to replace it and it really made me realise how heavy the DW pedal felt, which a couple of other drummers who had played on it mentioned to me previously. I feel the IC is far, far better built than the DW that I owned, which was also second hand when I got it and quite old. Coincidentally, the spring has just snapped on the IC tonight (thankfully not at a gig, although I always take a spare pedal anyway), which is the first thing that's ever gone wrong on the pedal since I got it and I've gigged with it heavily and practiced with it even more heavily. I have toyed with the idea of a speed cobra, but the IC is plenty fast enough for me and the speed cobras that I've played have felt too light for me, so I'll probably just buy another second hand IC at some point this year, then I've one for gigging, one for permanent setup. Those things are bombproof.
