Speed King

Tight.. screws are up in there- where were they at factory out of the box- who wound them up you did Round right? I'd be careful if you want it to last 70 years (the minimum Life Expectency of a Speed King 😁 or is that the loose setting ( I forget)

I tightened 'em up maybe half turn and am still experimenting. I'm leery of over over tightening since I also own a really beat up, almost unusable SK from the 70s, maybe late 60s, that has one of the screws completely frozen.

does it still have the two adjustment screws underneath the posts? I assume it does.
Yes.

The layout is the same as is the general feel. Other than upgrade a few minor details, Ludwig followed the phrase, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. ;)

Right Ross @Cmdr. Ross and the spring tension increases by drawing the bottom screws out..or in.. Does the new one come with an owners manual (bet it does

Just dug mine out and played a little. It's a very interesting pedal. I wouldn't say it plays any worse than a modern pedal like the DW 5000, just very different feeling. It doesn't seem to naturally accelerate the beater as much but it's easier to start and stop a stroke.

I really liked it and just ordered the new one. The one I played a couple years ago felt noticably smoother and oscillated more than the Vitalizer refurbished one I have. Back then, I think it was over $200 but the price is down to $160 now!
