Your top 5.. or 10 recorded snares

Mine in no particular order: 1 The snare from Van Halen's 1984 There is something about that dry sound they got that just gets the job done. 2 King Diamond's Them album (this is weird because it is not particularly great sounding but it cuts through the mix just perfectly). 3 Deftones White...

Well this is interesting... (recording pro level without pro tools)

    Most "Professionals" will disagree.

    Getting a digital mixer.

First let me start by saying I would have posted this in the recording and mixing section but I was greeted with "you have insufficient privileges to post here". Moving on. About a year or two ago I asked what people would recommend for recording and why they used said gear. I got a lot of...

Songs that are a workout (hard to play all the way through)

I have played fast metal for a whole 2 hrs gig with a few bands, but while taxing, it was never really a struggle to play one song all the way through. My current band plays 80s music and there are a few tunes where there was no drummer. ( you hear drums but that was a drum machine). One...

    I had an audition yesterday...

I had posted an add offering my drumming services on Craigslist, I got replies from 5 bands who wanted me to audition for them, then, the hurricane happened.... After massive cleanup and re-normalizing our lives, one of the bands (who had sent me a list of 30 songs to learn in one week, that...

    Great Beginner Cymbals

About 2 years ago I wanted to try Meinl cymbals but I didn't want to spend a fortune on a whole set so I order one of their entry line kits and it came with 10 cymbals for $... I think it was around 350 but I didn't pay for it my family gifted it to me for Christmas. my assessment is that they...

    Staining drums

I have the kit in my picture which has some sun damage, nothing too bad but you can see it if looking closely. I was looking into wraps but for the amount of drums it gets very expensive (I paid $300 for that 7 piece). Then I started to look into stain, that seems way cheaper and attainable. I...

What band or bands that changed members became better or worse in your opinion?

I don't know if I would say better but at least maintained their momentum: Slayer (when Dave Lombardo left Paul Bostaph took the helm and while they have very different styles the band didn't seem to suffer much for that. To me both are just as good but I like their playing for different...

How many songs does it take for you to say you like an artist/band?

As the title says, it takes more than just one song for me, but I say if I listen to an artist or band that has 2 or 3 albums and I like at least 10 or 12 out of 30 songs then I can say I like that band. One example of that for me is Deftones, I have listened to their albums and out of each I...

    Band as a business.

I know this is not a new thing, but I guess we will see a lot more of this now that some famous bands members are getting too old to perform. What I mean is when the band has really no original members... that one is quite common, but what is now starting to appear is when the band is more like...

In ears that double as hearing aids??

Charlie Benante Anthrax/Pantera explains how his setup was basically designed to help bring "Forward" some frequencies that he has lost over the years. (this is about the 7:74 mark in the video). He stated that those of course were custom made for him, but now they are available to the public...

An old school typewriter for a Metal kick drum sample?

Well apparently that is what some band add to their samples to trick the speakers into those frequencies... who knew?

That's it i'm getting Superior Drummer

This guy is just a phenomenal drummer and even though the music is not particularly what I listen to, I can appreciate how great of a player he is and the drums just sound phenomenal. so all of those edrum haters... well keep hating.

What lyrics are meaningful to you? [Moderator Edit: As always, please keep the language appropriate]

I know this is a drum forum but as we determined drums alone don't make a good song, so, we added guitars. Drums and guitars alone also don't make a good song so we will now add lyrics. What are old or current lyrics that said something to you or even changed your life literally? mine are ...

When you get free stuff you don't want

As the title says you don't want because you were not really supposed to get it for free. Confusing? let me explain. A few years ago I was stationed in Hawaii, the wife ordered me a tool box, one of those fancy ones with locking drawers and huge casters than can basically become part of a work...

Another cover with the heavy sticks

Here I am covering Flyleaf's All around me.

    Iron Maiden Aces High Cover

I know how to play the song, but I was not going for a note for note perfect cover, also the sticks used are super heavy so it was really hard to have good control. The song is already a workout, it was made more so because of the sticks. Still a very fun song to play along to.

    Valeton GP200

Has anyone here tried any of the Valeton pedals? I been wanting to get (another) multi effects guitar pedal, and of course I could buy the mega expensive Quad Cortex or Kemper profiler, but, you can get pretty damn close to their quality for $370.. to me it sounds like a no brainer. Of course in...
