Aquarian heads!

My only experience with Aquarian was with a Hi-Energy snare drum head I inherited when I purchased a used kit. At the time, I just happened to have an occasional need for an understated and heavily muffled head for quieter playing, and it performed beautifully, as advertised- muffled to within an inch of its life, like the SK bass drum heads. I no longer have a need for it so I've removed it, but still have it, should the need arise again.

It came with the Superkick I/Regulator pre-pack that I bought and I'm pretty sure it came with my Superkick II. Any website should provide that info for you before you buy.

None of the Aquarian bass drum heads I've bought come with any kind of patch. I usually use the small clear Evans patches but the Aquarian Kick Pad is good, just a little bigger than I'm usually looking for.

How are you liking Performance 2 on toms? Do they sing nicely or do they sound dead?
As brand new they sounded full and rich. Like a pinstripe, but pinstripes sound dead and cardboard like very quickly. Not the Aquarians.
I’ve tried Aquarian studio X. On toms. Not for me. Too dead too stiff.

Interesting! I've noticed this with the Powerstrokes I have on one of my kits. They sounded great for a while, but now at about a year old, they sounded really dead on the last gig recording I did.

Oddly enough, I have a set of clear Studio-X ready to go on that kit eventually. In my experience, the stiffness you get on some Aquarian heads soften up once they are broken in.

I read that Super Kick I is more suited for rock than Super Kick II. That Super Kick II is more muted
I've had SK1 on several drums and really, really like it. I have not tried the SK2.

I've always loved SK1 with a regulator on the front ported. I've also used super 2 Tom heads clear on a high-end Yamaha Birch kit and they sounded great. Right now, the only Aquarian head I have is a super 2 coated on a 16 inch floor Tom, and it sounds real good.

I wish I had so I could confirm for you, but black coated heads are about the only general variety of Aquarian heads I've never tried.

I can say that the yellow Vintage coating is thicker and rougher than the white and gray coatings, and also helps the Modern Vintage heads avoid sounding like plastic. I don't get a plasticky vibe from Aquarian in general, but the Modern Vintage heads are especially warm.
I second this. That's why I've always preferred the Aquarian sound. Even the clear heads don't have that placticky attack.

And the MV heads are just amazing. I have a couple MVII heads that I'm looking forward to trying on my Classic Maple kit. I have the MV Medium on two of my snares. That or the Texture Coated w/ Reverse Power Dot are my go-to snare heads.

Just wanted to ask this. Does it come with the head or must it be bought separately?
sometimes they come as part of a deal, otherwise they have to be bought separately. can get the regullar single or double kickpads, or the super-thin version from aquarian, meaning it offers some protection without affecting the feel or sound of the head too much :)

Several years ago I talked Aquarian into making me some Modern Vintage Medium heads with a reverse dot. Those are the best of both worlds!

Hi

Probably talked about before but I am looking for some opinions about Aquarian heads. Gonna change bass drum, snare and 10 and 12 tom heads. I am looking for some recommendations from Aquarian line. I played Evans and Remo but would like to experiment a little. Neee something for louder rock settings. Thx.
Many people have had and will report experiences contrary to mine and what I'm about to say but I personally have always found Aquarian heads to be the quietest of the big 3 head manufacturers. I have played a wide variety of heads across the portfolios of remo, Evans and aquarian and every single aquarian head produced noticably less volume then it's remo or Evans counterpart.

Not saying anything bad about Aquarian, they produce a solid product and I've noticed their prices are usually a touch lower versus remo and Evans. I just personally like more control over the volume.
