Limited Tama fan here. Their SS Classic Maple is the best bang-for-buck kit out there. And I have one of their new 50th Anniversary Mastercraft Artwood snare drums. Fine workmanship and inlays are superb. It is a good snare drum - a good value at the current $599 sale price. But upper tier Tama...
I do like that idea. Vintage forum.
And delete the Your Gear under Your Place. Just let us post about our gear in the gear forums, because they lead to discussions about gear and dovetail into other member's gear and opinions on gear.
Mott The Hoople was pretentious. ELP was pretentious. I grew up listening to Mott and ELP. Love them. But yeah they were pretentious. Is that trashing these bands? Yes. No. Maybe.
Here is a link to an article about pretentiousness in famous bands. I like what they said, which is basically...
Here are my posts on DFO that met with quite a bit of pushback and bullying. Not sure where I "trashed" the band, JimmyM. I commented and gave my opinion. It was not welcome.
Sorry this just all seems a bit too pretentious. Not knocking the mom good for her. Just the band seems typical of...
Yes I ran into that on DFO. A mother was posting about her daughter's new band (daughter is young woman) and I made some comments specific to the band and the overhype that got me bullied and pushed around on that thread. After that incident, I stopped participating much there.
DFO has fewer subforums. I do like their Vintage subforum - that's a good idea that could be incorporated here..
Here there are subtle distinctions between posting about drums snare kits vs "Your Place" where threads may have started with something like here is my new kit/snare etc but...
I've been playing Istanbul Agop and Bos cymbals for a while now. They're not exactly cheap. They are "my" sound for sure. I get them from Memphis, or Cymbal House. Love Cymbal House. It's a tiny store cymbals only. You make an appt and spend time just you behind their kit trying cymbals. Well...
In late 60's early 70's, as a kid/ teenager, any quality kit was out of my price range or my parent's. I had an Acrolite they purchased for me around 1966. That was only drum I had until about 1971 when they bought me what is now called a stencil kit. It was used. For Christmas one year I got...
Good question. I had a spinal cord tumor. Benign. But removal did significant nerve damage to my legs. And my ankle doesn't flex. The strap is a bicycle toe clip that helps keep my foot on pedal.
I am trying a few different heads yeah. That thin mylar ring since it's on inside it doesn't press much against the head. Not like if you sat something on top the head. I have sone of those DW Coated Clear drumheads I'll try, too.
Thanks.
I have often used Tama SS Classic Maple 18/14/12 for blues and jazz. Those shells are lite at only 5mm thick. No rerings. Hard to find those kits now, too. The 22" SS Classic kits are everywhere, but not 18. I'm a big fanboy.
I also put together a super-duper lightest weight possible...
