Who was the musical guest on SNL that played with his snare and toms angled away from him? Very unconventional looking setup. May have used the wrong thread
You're probably thinking of Daru Jones.Who was the musical guest on SNL that played with his snare and toms angled away from him? Very unconventional looking setup.
You know, just for kicks I tried my drums in a similar fashion. I was shocked to find the snare really comfortable way down low and highly angled. I only tried it with one tom, and I didn't love that. Nor did I find it easy to move between drums. That's weird...but whatever works for you.
Snares are often angled forward like that just not to that degree. But I've never seen toms like that. Not sure my back could handle it.
With Keith, his snare and floor toms are angled away from him, but his rack toms are perfectly flat (and at a normal height). Unlike Daru’s wildly unconventional setup, Keith’s kit looks relatively normal.Keith Carlock does it too, but not to that degree
Yeah, his are more like the old jazz players' snare drum angles. He angles his floor toms away, too, but I don't think the rack toms are angled away. Kinda wild to see how fluidly he can get around the kit.Keith Carlock does it too, but not to that degree
I'm sure a big part of why he does it is for the shock and outrage it causes "conventional" drummers when they see it.You know, just for kicks I tried my drums in a similar fashion. If all I had to do was kick/hat/snare grooving, though, I could have made it work.
Shock n awe always seems to work.I'm sure a big part of why he does it is for the shock and outrage it causes "conventional" drummers when they see it.
Stroman do you play traditional or matched? You know, just for kicks I tried my drums in a similar fashion. I was shocked to find the snare really comfortable way down low and highly angled. I only tried it with one tom, and I didn't love that. Nor did I find it easy to move between drums.

Both, but I was using matched when I tried out the Daru setup.Stroman do you play traditional or matched?
