Who played with toms and snare angles backwards

Who was the musical guest on SNL that played with his snare and toms angled away from him? Very unconventional looking setup.

That's weird...but whatever works for you.

Snares are often angled forward like that just not to that degree. But I've never seen toms like that. Not sure my back could handle it.
You know, just for kicks I tried my drums in a similar fashion. I was shocked to find the snare really comfortable way down low and highly angled. I only tried it with one tom, and I didn't love that. Nor did I find it easy to move between drums.

If all I had to do was kick/hat/snare grooving, though, I could have made it work.

Keith Carlock does it too, but not to that degree
With Keith, his snare and floor toms are angled away from him, but his rack toms are perfectly flat (and at a normal height). Unlike Daru’s wildly unconventional setup, Keith’s kit looks relatively normal.

Yeah, his are more like the old jazz players' snare drum angles. He angles his floor toms away, too, but I don't think the rack toms are angled away. Kinda wild to see how fluidly he can get around the kit.

I'm sure a big part of why he does it is for the shock and outrage it causes "conventional" drummers when they see it.

As far as the snare drum angle, I think he got that from Wailin' Smash, if I'm honest 🤪

Look at the old photos of Gene Krupa and see how radical an angle his snare was leaning away from him. I copied that look, but nowhere near as pronounced as Gene's. I have the snare angle inward to the right in order to facilitate rimshots with my left hand.

I’ve seen Daru play conventionally, but there is no doubt he does the angles because it’s a unique look. It worked well for him, too. 10 years with Jack White, a first call hip hop dude…I’m a fan.

Chris Coleman was doing it with his racktoms 10 years ago
Keith Carlock with his floor toms
Although I haven't noticed them doing it lately

Stroman do you play traditional or matched?
