Ferry Query. (Let's stick together, Brian Ferry.)

My band are working out a cover of this cracker. Seems straightforward enough, then I thought: do I hear the drummer playing the rim of his toms? He's doing something awkward judging by his facial expression...

    Hertz So Good

I guess a lot of musicians have seen this bizarre effect of oscillations before - but if you haven't - it's very strange!

    Mongolian Metal Babies

How's this for a musical way to start the school day? ADHD-friendly?

    Wood Shed Boom

Our rehearsal space is a wooden shed. Wood walls and wood floor too. We're trying to record some demos of our songs - but my bass drum is resonating ridiculosly and way too loud. Apart from removing the reso head and filling it up like a front loading washing machine - is there anything that...

    Peter Sellers: who knew?!

He was a drummer - "and a very good one too". Instagram clip here:

    Antique.

It's just an old floor tom in an antique shop that's been brush painted - but I'm curious what it was in its heyday. Nice Art Deco lugs on it (and slotted rods).

Behind the beat? (Eddie Floyd - Knock On Wood.)

Here's a song I've just rediscovered since learning to play drums. The sheer coiled-up energy in this groove blows my mind. I quite literally HAVE to jump up and dance around every time I hear it. What's the secret? (Beside an ace singer and song, obvs) Is it my imagination or is the drummer...

Why do drum brands sound different? Video.

Has this been spotted by Drummerworld yet? A talk on drum construction - I'm only half way through - but it's an eye-opener. The construction of Ludwigs into the sixties is truly gruesome! 😨

    Monkee Ignorant

Love this gorgeous recording - but what kind of rhythm is it - and how is it counted? I seem to be able to count the snare beat as on the 2 and 4 - or on the 'ands' of 1 and 3... Asking for a friend - counting is not his core strength. 🙄

    Super Fill

Sounds good to me. Never heard of it before - what do you grizzled veterans think?

    Pumpkins' Jimmy Chamberlin with Beato

Usual great Beato interview - don't miss the eye-popping drum solo at 1.05.45! That can't be doing his nervous/ vascular system any good, can it? 👀

Fave Soul Drum Covers: 'Vintage Drummer'

Hi, anyone who's a fan of Soul/ Motown drumming should have a peek at this guy's playlist: I love his big open drum sound and choice of tracks. My new fave resource for drum demos!

    Cozy Powell - Record Breaker

The youtube algorithm (rhythm?) threw this at me. I had to share it. Sorry. 😜

Anyone seen this E Kit hihat pedal problem before?

Hi, E Kit boffins - any ideas on this problem? I've got a pretty basic Session Pro DD505 kit (bit of a 'stencil' kit - Millenium do one that is visually identical) - one day the pedal went inop, so I bought a second hand replacement, but no joy. The hihat will only make the 'closed' sound when...

    Super-Skinny Drums!

Spotted this kit on Timothy Roberts' cymbal-making youtube channel. Ever seen drums this thin (shallow)? How do they sound to you?

    Beautiful cymbal craftsmanship

Is Timothy Roberts' youtube channel known here? Lovely process to watch 👀❤

    Rick Beato's Stewart Copeland interview

Rick Beato just completed the set of Police interviews with his Stewart Copeland interview. Stewart as painfully introverted as ever. At one point about halfway through, I think Rick gets a word in edgeways.

Recording Studio: It was the first of times, it was the worst of times!

I'm in my first band with some highly experienced gigging musicians - last week we went to a local recording studio to capture a couple of our original songs. I had suggested the band record Scratch Tracks on my phone of us playing the songs before we went so I could have them in my headphones...
