Drum gods

What happened to all the drum gods? It seems like there a very few new one. When I was a kid reading MD, these guys seemed untouchable. I feel like theres been a few in the last decade, like Matt Gartska but nobody really has the status of the older legends. Is this?

A - Because I'm old an out of touch
B - Print media is dead
C - Insta gives us much more access to these people, so the mythical status kinda disappears when you can see every detail of their lives?
D - Rock bands aren't as popular as they once were

Any ideas?

It's a mystery that no one know what happened to these guys, they're cool drum legends but I say it's unclear that drummers do have social media accounts on Facebook Instagram Twitter and YouTube it's 2025 and I had yet to research on what happened to the drum gods, any status of them could be inactive in the moment.

When you have a handful of ultra-elites standing head and shoulders above everyone else, those ultra-elites tend to gain rarified status, especially when they capture the attention on non-drummers.

Now though, there are more ultra-elites than there is attention to go around, and too few are in the right context to capture mainstream attention. Gartska is skilled, but the fact he's relatively well known is more downstream of being a member of Animals as Leaders.

In years gone by, if you wanted to hear a good drummer you had to do it in person or buy the albums they were on and if they were in a great band it made them even better. There was no 9 million take. 9 million edit youtube video with triggers, hit replacements etc that gave everyone the ability to look and sound amazing.

There also hasn't been a drummer that the kids all love love, Joey Jordinson and Travis Barker being the last ones I can think of and that's late 90's/early 2000s
