and in hindsight ( loved this song as a kid), the song ( the groove, I mean) sure sounds like a 'more relaxed "Kid Charlemagne"

Yes to this. ^^ It also has the triple Pshup on hats (Pea Soup) that is classic Purdie. Definitely not the Purdie shuffle.

Late to the party. I nearly spit my coffee as soon as those toms came in reverberating like whopping 26" timpani! Hilarious, and what a cool sound, I love it. That studio engineer deserves a medal for being so ballsy and making it work.

Louie Bellson backing Wayne Newton at the Desert Inn is a vibe I can get with. Ed Shaughnessy at the Holiday Inn in Elizabeth, NJ a different vibe but I can do both.
If you’re into jazz, better check into Pearl!

That was really fun to read. I've actually never read a drum mag, let alone a vintage one, but now I'm hooked. Looks like I'm going to have to start a new ill advised hobby of collecting old drum mags. I just convinced myself to get out of collecting old sci fi & gaming mags, so leaves a bit of room for useless, money sinking nostalgia my wife won't understand.
