    Drum gods

In years gone by, if you wanted to hear a good drummer you had to do it in person or buy the albums they were on and if they were in a great band it made them even better. There was no 9 million take. 9 million edit youtube video with triggers, hit replacements etc that gave everyone the ability...

What Is Something You Do Well?

Remembering song arrangements and lyrics. Playing insanely quiet with dynamics and playing to the room. Totally non-drum related but I can also sing harmony very well.

Looking for a session drummer – Thrash/Death Metal project

There's lots of websites that have drummers who will record exactly what you're looking for, with prices ranging from dirt cheap to pro level. You might be barking up the wrong tree here asking people to audition for your project. Sounds like you're looking for the demo to be done for free...

The Bass Player And The Drummer

True, it usually travels to under my drum stool and rattles my chest what ever the scientific phenomenon for that is lol! Most times they just need to tweak their tone for the room.

How to explain where “1” is?

Pretty sure you can get a metronome that will audibly count. That's about as idiot proof as you can make this.

Changing volume from one gig to another.

For the quiet gig bite the bullet and use an electric kit. Stops all the arguments straight away and you get a more consistent sound perfect for IEMs.

The Bass Player And The Drummer

I've only been lucky enough to play with one bassist like that and I think bassists suffer as much as we do because we got on like a house on fire and really clicked. Dead humble bloke that had done session work at some big studios but never mentioned it once, other people told me. Amazing with...

The Bass Player And The Drummer

This is what I've really noticed since using IEMs and silent stage. There's nowhere for bad musicians to hide and it's usually the bassist. Even my regular bassist has this horrible habit of going off piste and does this slappy thing right over his pickups which I really notice and everyone...

would you buy cymbals with scallop repair?

Even though this is a zombie thread, buying a broken cymbal is a hard no. They can't be repaired and are worthless. It's an insult that people try and sell them or call them professionally repaired. If they've broke them in the first place they been abused

The Bass Player And The Drummer

A good bassist is rare. I haven't come across many over the years. It's always a joys to gig with a good one. You keep each other on check and it sounds so much better.

    unpopular opinion about modern recordings

Not an unpopular opinion at all. When you alter everything to make it perfectly in time and in tune it takes away the human element and makes it sound stale and boring. There are still people who do things the old fashioned way but that costs money so they're getting harder to find!

Are kids and hobbyists getting priced out of drumming?

Different continent sadly :( Sounds like how cymbals should be bought! What a great idea. Haven't really looked at the price of cymbals in about 3 years when I got the K Con renaissance ride and that was £500 but worth it! Had a quick look and Istanbuls are a smidgen cheaper than Zildjian.

MY Current and Last Cymbal Setup

Got a set of Ks about 12 years ago after using Paiste for a long time. My taste changed. I've been happy ever since.

    Steely Dan's Drummers

The Purdue/Rainey combination on Royal Scam is magical. Steely Dan are a band that could only have existed in the 70s. The recording budgets must have been mind bogling and they only toured the first album. I've always wondered with all the drummers they used on Aja, was it the same kit they...

    Growth and practice time

Just keep it short and sweet. When I was younger and I had not a care in the world or any other adult things to worry about, I could practice all day too. I've done practice subconsciously for years. Practice pad and a pair of sticks on the sofa so I'll practice away watching the TV or along to...
