What are you listening to right now?

Brain radio has been playing Atlanta Rhythm Section's Angel since yesterday afternoon. You'll get no argument from me. It's a delicious tune from their Partly Plugged album. Well worth finding a copy - if you can!

I've been listening to a bit of Robert Plant's solo stuff lately. I had absolutely no idea the Dave Weckyl played on the Honeydrippers Volume 1 EP. This is about the most straightforward stuff I've ever heard him do.

What am I listening to? A little bit of slide guitar! ZZ Top's Have You Heard? is playing on (in?) brain radio this morning. Tres Hombres was a regular on my turntable in the 70's. Much of the green is worn off the album cover and I'd imagine the vinyl pressing is almost worn through too. :)

Funny, I never gave the lyrics much pause for consideration. Until today. Have you heard?

Caught this guy last weekend at the local Jazz fest. Never heard of him, but he put on a great show! If you ever get a chance to see Pat Bianchi, don't pass on it. Highly recommended.

I have no control over brain radio, though I can make suggestions that will sometimes "change the channel." To make it worse, brain radio apparently plays at night while I'm sleeping (I'm a lucid dreamer...) - I awake every morning with a song playing in my head.

Today it was Abba and Mama Mia. I won't apologize for liking a bit of disco and will admit to having a couple Abba albums and at least one Donna Summer album in my collection. There may be others. So, here ya go!

Haven't heard this in a while. Its nice, but I always felt like she needed more orchestration here. Drums, bass, guitar, maybe some horns. I think it might've been better, but this is good. Don't get me wrong, this is very good...

Some UK funk pressure with Malcolm Catto bringing the heat on skins…. The way he plays over the bar line is wicked.

No offense, but I like it the way it was recorded - sort of somber and stark. But...

I did a bit of a dive and found that the song was written by Chris Cornell of Soundgarden. Okay. Didn't know, but the tune was familiar. So kept reading...

And that Chris Cornell died young. Didn't know, so kept reading...

And that his last performance was at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, MI on May 17, 2017. So kept reading...

And found that Norah Jones performed this solo at the Fox Theatre on May 23, 2017 (5 days later) as sort of a tribute to Chris Cornell.

Nice. Didn't know, and it still didn't change my opinion. I like it as it was recorded and now it sort of makes sense. (if you can believe Wikipedia)

Brain radio is playing Roy Orbison's Crying. But I'm not. Mrs Smoke and I are headed to Sault Ste. Marie, MI/Canada with friends today. A nice day trip. Haven't visited the Soo since I was a kid, so am looking forward to it. Here's Roy.

'Show me the Way to the next Whiskey Bar" was Kurt Weill. The Alabama song.

it's in there. One of my most if not favorite Paul Motian performances..

Tethered Moon (the band) plays Kurt Weill.
