Places all drummers should visit

A retirement home in Japan! You're living my dream! How does one even go about that? The logistics sound overwhelming.
Much less overwhelming when spouse is Japanese citizen... And nowadays, it's become easier due to the population crash in rural areas. You can actually purchase a house/land for very little money, because there are so many empty houses. We almost bought a piece of land with a fairly nice house on it (needed work, but was sound) for $25K.

Folks mentioning a Zildjian tour got me thinking... we have a Zildjian drumstick factory near me, used to be a Vic firth factory before Zildjian bought them , after Mr FIrths death. I should make it a point someday to stop in there and see if they have a tour or unofficial walk thru....

Last summer, my dad and I took a road trip to Memphis Drum Shop to buy some cymbals and explore their amazing selection. Anyone who has an opportunity should definitely check out their cymbal room.

As the new year is in full swing, I’m starting to make plans for this summer.

My question for you all is: What are some places all drummers should try to visit? Stores, factory tours, museums, or anything else that would appeal to drummers?
Phoenix musical instrument museum

Revival Drums in Portland, certainly. Pro Drum Shop in LA.

It's really cool to order some custom cymbals and go to Istanbul and watch them lathe them, and then immediately play them.

I want to go to Basel for the rudimental thing, I don't know if there's an institution there for it or what.

Probably everybody should go to DCI nationals once, or some other major drum corps show-- Whitewater, Wisconsin maybe.

Working for a messenger service I stumbled on Buddy Rich's crypt at the Westwood memorial park by accident, that's worth a visit if you swing lugubrious:

My 3 brothers just decided we all needed to do a Bucket List trip somewhere in the US, since...I'm ill. First words out of my mouth "Drum Center of Portsmouth!" First words out of their mouths: "Um...what? Not Yellowstone or Yosemite?" But that's what we're doing in July. Of course, not being a complete psycho, we'll also be staying on the coast of Maine and eating tons of lawbstah. I've been to Forks btw. Cool place (see pic). Smaller than you'd think, but a can't-miss if you're in Nashville.

first of all, sending healing vibes your way!!! I hope this trip also adds to those

and secondly, yeah!! The drum shop is like a National Park to us!!! And Acadia is not too far away

hope that all goes well

I have to say good things about C&M Music in Lafayette, Louisiana. They have always treated me good. I bought a cymbal there yesterday. I also bought all of my snares from them. Peace and goodwill.

All drummers should visit Alaska, because it’s Alaska.
I've played Alaska in 1994 & 95, and heading back to Anchorage this August for 2 shows at the state fair (in Palmer a little north of Anchorage.) Should be nice and balmy there, but the 1995 trip was in February, and we encountered snow... kind of a big change coming from southern California! Beautiful state though and nice people, Juneau and Anchorage were my favorite cities.

Didn’t make it to Anchorage but I went to Juneau on a cruise and we all went in on chartering a boat to go whale watching, and I swear this mama whale and her baby were actually performing for us for close to an hour. I hate cruising usually but I’d do Alaska again in a NY minute.

Drum Center of Portsmouth, Noble & Cooley factory tour and Pro Drum Shop in Hollywood are all on my bucket list.
Non-drum related I also want to swing by Norman's Rare Guitars in Tarzana, California at least once just for the vibe.

When I went to NOLA, I went to the Jazz Museum (which is in the old New Orleans mint museum, upstairs), and it was pretty cool. They have Baby Dodd’s drum kit on display, which was super cool to see! Besides that, NOLA if filled with plenty of history and music, and definitely worth a visit!
Man I was in New Orleans last year and didn't do that. Cool place but way too many talented broke musicians in one place. The sheer amount of music around is mind boggling.

I'm off to Lord's for the cricket in the summer which is literally next door to Abbey Road. May have to do the zebra crossing at the very least!

I drive past John Bonham's old flat in Dudley all the time.

The places that changed my listening are places I would suggest....

Pioneer Courthouse Square’s Echo Chamber in Portland, Oregon...take a hand drum and play with the delay(its a tiny delay)...I started hearing small delays far easier after spending time there.

Find an Anechoic Chamber...I got nauseous after a couple minutes in one. Really showed me the sounds i ignore.

If you’re planning a drummer’s dream road trip, hit up places like Fork’s Drum Closet in Nashville, Steve Maxwell Drums in Chicago or NYC, and Pro Drum Shop in L.A. for iconic gear and history. For factory tours, DW in California and Sabian in Canada offer awesome behind-the-scenes looks (Zildjian is invite-only but legendary). Don’t miss the Rhythm! Discovery Center in Indianapolis, a full-on percussion museum you can play in. If you’re into festivals, the Chicago Drum Show is a must for vintage gear heads, and NAMM is the ultimate hang if you can swing a badge. Every stop is a groove-packed experience!
