Please help the visually challenged. When I look at the pic below, it appears to me that the bass drum bearing edge is sharper than the snare and tom edges. Yet supposedly it's less sharp. What am I not seeing here? I mean the angle, not the R1.5 edge (slight rounding).
I have two birch kits and two maple kits. I typically use my Zildjian K's and K Customs on the birch kits and Zildjian A's and A Customs on my maple kits. I like the warmer / darker cymbals on the brighter birch kits and the brighter cymbals on the warm maple kits.
What is your preference?
I have been working on technique with hands my whole life. I recently (sadly) just started paying attention to what my feet are doing. Two things for me:
NOT curling my toes while using feet. Feeling the ball of the foot when playing heel up and the follow through when going all the way through...
All - if you can believe it, UPS 'lost' two Tama Star Maple snare drums in transit. I shipped them to a dealer in NYC for consignment and they went missing. Their claim process is a joke. After submitting multiple documents they keep asking for more. Yes it was insured. Like I should have to...
Signed up for his masterclass next Saturday in ATL from 6-9 P.M. at Atlanta Drum Shop. Very much looking forward to this. Anyone been to one of his masterclasses? He was on staff at Berklee for a decade and his approach to polyrhythms is incredible.
So 2024 was the year I sold two flagship level kits and a few flagship level snares, for a total of $10,700 this year. After an hour online of research I am now even more confused. I have already paid the income tax in the money earned to buy these kits, and they were private property. I.E., I...
I have spent a couple hours looking online and am curious as to what folks here think are the best. Three qualifications:
They need to have really good closed back performance, looking for 32 DB outside noise reduction.
They need to (obviously) have wired connection to plug into my drum board...
My church is looking to shed the isolation booth and move forward with another kit that offers more tone and less attack/volume. Initial thoughts are something with a thin shell and rounded bearing edges. Adoro comes to mind. Do any of you worship drummers have any thoughts on this? The church...
Does anyone have an idea of a site (paid is fine) that offers the largest selection of worship drum charts? Web searches can be deceiving. Thanks in advance for your help.
I have read so many conflicting opinions in this. For a thin shell (5mm toms, 6mm bass drum) do you believe the sustain is greater with:
Clear emperors | ambassadors
Clear ambassadors | clear ambassadors
My experience seems to favor choice 1, with choice 2 providing a little more clarity...
First off, I don't work for Zildjian, but I have to sing the praises of this ride cymbal. I bought this cymbal over 20 years ago (son was a baby at the time) and have never heard anything like it. Beautiful warm wash, but with excellent stick definition, and different intonations across the...
Here's a question for you material science types. I have two different kits that have the same tom tom thickness, and the exact same dimensions:
Tama Starclassic Maple (5mm)
Sonor SQ2 thin birch build (5mm)
The Sonor will take a higher tuning (which I love), the SCM tunes up a bit lower...
I have been wondering about this for years. Assuming music notation is different amongst written languages? I would love to see a written out drum part in Japanese, for example...
Searched the forum first (I could just suck at search engines), looking for a solution.
Currently have an EMAD2 on there and it's too much. Instinct is telling me to go back to the trusty PS3 clear | Evans EQ4. Replaced the ported head with non-vented for boom.
Basically looking for a 51% to...
After 40 years of playing in various musical genres and venues, I am still trying to solidify the projection formula. Let me be more specific. I have two Tama kits:
Starclassic Maple. 100% North American (Canadian sourced - checked with Tama) Rock Maple - 5mm straight tom shells, graduated...
