Opinions on Gretsch snare

This snare was listed in the equivalent of Craigslist in my home city. Listed as a vintage 14 x5 1/2 Gretsch USA snare. I checked with a Gretsch group on line who advises its a reissue from around 2010/2011 and thats why there is no "USA" on the badge. The owner wants $500 AUD ( about $360USD ) I don't really need another snare but if its good quality and a good price , why not ? What do any of you think ? the Gretsch experts inc jda?

that's not how it struck me at first... one that's an old or Rare color -even for 2010- two that 2010/11 badge was "more" black..(could be camera angle showing more gold here)

So cheerfully I'd request more pics: throw. Butt, inside sticker if it has one ..more pics
I understand "the USA" not being there but I'd still (like to verify more ( of throw butt an inside glimpse..)

Thanks jda. I’ll ask the seller for some of those specific pics as you suggest. I think there’s a bit of a language barrier with the seller - I asked him initially how old it was and got a reply “ it’s a vintage snare” and then something like “ they don’t age” . I think he misunderstood the question. I’ll see what I get .

Here’s a pic of the throw off and butt plate. I’ve asked the seller for a photo of the inside and inside sticker if it’s there.

looking good and as advertised..
Center Lightning and Fishtail butt : )
(beyond I've never owned Center Lightning I have two Side Lightning and love; Fishtail butt also I've never owned; have heard some troubles compared to earlier butt.....but... ) All Looks in Order (y)

I've never bonded with any Gretsch snare I've played. So many better choices out there to my ears.

Elvin, Max , Art and about million recordings may differ with ya :)

you DO have to acclimate to Gretsch USA drums, the die cast hoop height etc. But some persist and come out the other end and others may just walk away.. But can't deny their importance nor PRESENCE (Not the Led Zep al bum : ) over a century

I had a Renown snare for a while, that's the closest I've been to playing one. I liked it, thought it had a really nice tone and a certain mellowness and balance that I liked, but I ended up selling it. The guy who bought it from me liked it a lot so it all worked out for everyone.

Moral of the story: if you end up deciding it's not a keeper, there's usually someone else looking to buy a Gretsch snare.

Your comment reminded that while I'm sticking to the "I've never really bonded with a Gretsch snare" sentiment, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't kick that Gretsch Renown Limited Mahogany out of the bed for eating crackers. Heck, I'd love to try out one of those kits for a few months.

I love Renowns.
