Very nice!! Enjoy your kits!
Yeah, Sonor sounds unique for sure!
Really, they didn't have a 14 Prolite floor tom?

Some years ago I ordered a matching 14" FT and a 10" tom for my three piece Vintage Series set (as in the Avatar pic),
and last year I did the same with a matching 8" tom for my Prolite snow tiger set,
and there wasn't any problem ordering those single drums!

Word is the Prolite is being discontinued, at least in the U.S.

Got any pics of your Snow tigers?:).

They were discontinued in the US last year. BUT you can still order add on drums as an SQ2 vintage maple with the Prolite badges. Shane from DCP has a video explaining it, basically they wanted to streamline production for US market as SQ2 only for supply chain reasons and keep the Prolite available in Europe. I don't really understand how a slightly different T.A.R. mount and badges could impact supply chain to this level but supply chain is not my mojo so I will let someone with more knowledge explain that...

Any SQ1 love here? My 20,14,12, and Jost Nickel snare are the best drums I've ever played. Small drums tuned low, snare medium. I call them Giant Marshmallows of Death. They record like a dream. Shane at DCP told me I'd be ruined after I got them. So true. I've had Ludwig, Custom Pork Pie, Tama, Keller Custom, etc. This is an off the shelf kit in a ho-hum finish. I'm floored every day.

Photo of the new Prolite kit and my SQ2 Scandinavian Birch (thin build) side by side. Also just special ordered the matching 14x14 floor tom for the Prolite. You have to order as an SQ2 vintage maple shell with the Prolite badge. 6-9 months.

NOTHING sounds like high end Sonor kits, I have owned and played them all throughout 4 decades.

Gasm. How does the birch sound? I've got limited experience with birch but on the DCP comparison videos the thin birch sounded best to me.

Dang. Those kits are SMOKIN'!
I didn't know I was a birch guy. My latest kit was gonna be SQ1 or Vintage Series. (I didn't want to wait!) I knew I had to have beech somewhere in the mix. Thanks, Jost. SQ1 is a dream sound. It's really dynamic too. I can pull out my 602 rides (medium or flat) and really lay low if needed. I'm sure with any German Sonor, you swap out cymbals depending on the gig. Cheers guys!

I snagged a killer used Prolite over the weekend, should arrive this week. Retailer claims '2020's.' I will post this on the new forum when I get done with the workday.

Thanks as always.

How do you like your new to you ProLite?

Wow I love it! IMHO the best near field sound I have ever heard. With the undersized shell, it will also take a higher tuning than my Tama Starclassic Maple kit.

I'm still stunned at the practically new condition of the Prolite. I worked up the equivalent build via SQ2 vintage maple and it was obscene. Literally over twice the cost. Grateful I found this gem. 14x14 add on floor tom should arrive in October and complete the kit.

Here's a picture of the SQ2 birch next to the Prolite. Waited my entire life (56) to obtain kits of this calibur. Been playing since elementary school band so this is as close to Heaven on Earth as I'm going to get!

I have an SQ1 5x14 snare drum and love it. Tunes up nice and high, with a wicked crack to it. Also very resonant and full sounding. It's the side snare on my Tama Starclassic Walnut Birch kit (tunes up a bit higher than the Starclassic Maple snare drum on the kit). Those undersized shells are a game changer.

Recently got this Sunset beech kit, 12/14/18. Medium beech shells from what I've read. First Sonors I've ever played. I have had a lot of excellent drums over the years, mostly Gretsch and Canopus, but these may be the best drums I've had. I'm just floored by how clear the tone is, how they sing no matter how high I crank them up. I'm a convert.

Love that finish. That it sounds phenomenal is a given. Still kicking myself for selling a 5.5x14 vintage beech snare drum a couple of years ago...

I am pretty sure those are the thicker 8mm shells.

You can see on this Sound Pure listing they had all the info direct from Sonor at the very bottom of the page and the 8mm is listed there.

so here’s a question: if only 25 of these sunset beech kits were made, how come they go for such a reasonable price? i got these for a fraction of what the same kit as an sq2 would cost.

Well when they were brand new I don't think they were anywhere near being cheap.. I think they were low to mid 2k for 3 drums, but also they were more like Delite/Prolite level with the hardware so probably not a fair metric with SQ2.

Here is a used one with some extras that sold recently for around what they went for new long ago : https://reverb.com/en-hu/item/90942...limited-edition-3-pc-drum-set-bags-and-extras
