Thomas - in action

Welcome to Drummerworld Forum!

Thomas has been here since 2005. The last time I checked, that's 19 years.

Actually I want to say it was around 2000-2001 or so. A lot of early content here was lost during a server migration many years ago, and some of the member profile information was reset. If you go back to the first threads other than the threads pinned by moderators in any of the subforums, you'll see that the oldest ones are from August 2008, even though there had been years of content prior to that.

My memory gets really hazy that far back, but I was a single dad sharing a rented two-bedroom house in the San Fernando Valley, and I used my tax refund to buy a drum kit like I'd wanted since I was about 10 years old. The local Guitar Center had an entry level Pacific EZ kit that I could barely afford; I bought that and the Zildjian ZBT-Plus PRO4 set of cymbals, and they threw in a throne and a pair of sticks. I went online looking for a community and found this forum. I tried my best to be as helpful to others here as they were to me. After awhile Bernhard noticed my participation and we talked for a bit. Back then he was doing everything by himself. I had experience moderating an old gaming forum so he asked if I would help out here. I think that was 2005, although I don't remember exactly how long it was between me joining the forum as a member and Bernhard asking me to join as a moderator.

Soon after, he offered me the opportunity to go to winter NAMM in Anaheim as a representative of DrummerWorld. By then I was living in Las Vegas so I drove down for the show. I was so broke I slept in my car that weekend. A year or two after that, he flew out from Switzerland and we attended NAMM together.

I'm proud to say that my years of friendship with Bernhard Castiglioni have been some of the best years I have known, and it has been a honor to be associated with his work and his legacy. If the universe smiles on us, we may just be here for another few spins around the galaxy.

You would be a very interesting bloke to sit down at a bar and have a yarn with Thomas. I reckon you'd have some WICKED stories to tell.

It just goes to show that all of us have a backstory.

Thanks boss.

Thomas (Drum Buddy),

That was an amazing story! So humble with the details... I love that!
