Trick Dominators kind of dissapoint

I found the exact issue with mine , it got harder to press the closer I got to the head , I had my tension backed off as far as I go as well ..
I was really disappointed as I felt like I had finally found a pedal built for life …

I have this pedal. After loosing the tension, It takes a combination of shortening up the beater angle and raising the bass drum spurs to change the head angle, to get it just right.

And often this can be the issue. I've been there with pedals that have FAR too many adjustment points than what's needed. You can go down quite the rabbit hole doing adjustments, so it's always best to know when to stop & move on like you're doing.
