What's the Difference between DrumForum.org and Drummerworld.com/forums

And do you ever see them merging / merged together some day?

Not much seemingly. The same commentators almost on both sites. DW was not asking an admission fee to avoid ads, DFO did it or does it, counting (I guess) on their demographic not knowing about adblockers and thinking they were helping a buddy to run a website. DW had the drummer's database on it's side, it seems gone... If merged, the commentators will spare time on duplicate logins.

I'll say this 2 forums are really niche, so much, they share the same audience. Facebook groups and similar are much more dynamic than traditional forums. The only thing I miss there is the pssibility of archive posts search.

The main difference I see between the two forums is the moderation here is a million times better than over there. That and people seem to stick more to drumming-related topics here. There’s still a ton of useful archived info on DFO, but my days of contributing there were over a long time ago.

I like this forum much better. Peace and goodwill.

it would nice to emulate the layout of the Buy/Sell/Trade sections here that Drum Forum has.

I've browsed the other forum but never joined. Not really sure why. I've just always liked the vibe here. That, and the really handsome moderators here. Just sayin'...

Seems to me that this forum has more playing/business content and DFO has more technical content.

DFO has fewer subforums. I do like their Vintage subforum - that's a good idea that could be incorporated here..

Here there are subtle distinctions between posting about drums snare kits vs "Your Place" where threads may have started with something like here is my new kit/snare etc but generally evolve into an equipment discussion. Your Place is the place threads go to fade and die. IMHO - for gear - it's an unnecessary subforum. Makes you go there needlessly for many discussions about gear.

I like mods here - they are quick to limit political and non-drum discussions.

More activity there, certainly. I frankly see more answers I agree with to playing and teaching questions-- of which there still aren't that many. It's mostly about gear there, too-- there are some cymbalholics people there, and I think a number of drum builders, asking questions about the sonic implications of a 1/2" washer vs. a 7/16" washer on a bass drum spur. General vibe here is easier.

Moderation is more conservative there, and here more contemporary, let's say. I think ownership of DFO has changed, for awhile the owners obviously resented having to pay to run it, and thought that a link to anything off site was stealing traffic from them. I had to have a conversation to put a link in my signature, the guy was that ilk of old fart who enjoys being unreasonable, wielding his awesome power unreasonably.

Neither sites' moderation has really kept up with current events re: political conversation or comments-- a certain movement has made a lot of things political that were formerly not political, which puts a lot of ordinary topics off limits, because that movement views them as politically harmful, and wants to impose a narrative-- which biases both sites' moderation to favor that movement.

100% agree with this comment. It’s why I don’t post there anymore. They will allow all sorts of conservative viewpoints but suddenly things are political if other -contemporary viewpoints- are stated. Yeah, no thanks. That forum is also quite American-centric, whereas this forum tends to get participants from all over the world, which is probably why it’s more contemporary focused.

I do miss the buying/selling aspects of drumforum. In addition, while I don’t collect vintage gear anymore, it’s impossible not to recognize that they had some people that were quite knowledgeable in the vintage drum world. Other than those things, the vibe over here is relaxed and very supportive. I hope the two forums don’t merge. I’d probably stop participating if they did.

As if addiction to one forum isn’t bad enough for your relationship with the instrument.

I just find that forum harder to read because of the format, maybe because I’m not used to it. I think it’s that forum or another one that used to have huge signatures under every post like we need to read 2 paragraphs about what kits someone owns everytime we scroll to the next comment.

On the plus side it’s another pond to migrate to if you are tired of the fish in this one. I wonder if that’s where Larry went.

I meant that they don't allow some pretty mild swear words there-- but yeah, that's true too, definitely...

I think median age there is ~15 years older than it is here.

The classified section is a big difference .
And sadly , no more JDA or Vistalite Black at DFO .

The DFO forum seems less international, more US focussed posters. There are also more collectors, less players, maybe connected with its average age.
Depending on the info you seek, one is better versed than the other. Badge, drums and parts identifications, can’t beat DFO. But I don’t think I ve seen many discussions of modern drumming, music or bands ever on DFO… more ‘back in the day’.
Personally I hope they never merge. Imagine if all the airlines merged. Would you want to fly only one airline?

Nah, just didn’t have much to add that wasn’t said.

I do think there’s people on DFO who enjoy being fight pickers more than on here, but as long as they don’t attack me, I’m cool with it.

It seems there's "100" people at DFo and sometimes 'elbows" connect.
here at DW seems " 1000" people and never bump into each other.
Among other things
it seems with less people getting personal can be good or a Bad thing
