Been thinking about how most of us rarely go under 16" for crashes. Anyone here go less? I'm in the market for a 14" crash & wanted to pick some brains about how they sit in a mix and how youse all feel about them.
I have a beater kit at a rehearsal space & picked up a Sound Percussion pedal for $39. I did this so if the band has anyone else using the kit at the space, none of my good gear is threatened. Stands aren't much better.
Anyone else here do this? Buy beater hardware for a beater kit left out of...
Saw this question in my r/drums subreddit and felt I’d get some good answers here. I for one don’t really have one, but many seem to think Dave Matthew’s Band comes right to mind.
Thoughts?
I did Rob Brown's Year of the Hands program during Covid and it was a great experience. Changed everything about my grip and going forward, my hands love me again. 😁
He's recently opened up hour long coaching sessions where it's just you & him for 60 minutes. At $150, I felt it was a good...
I wanted to ask in another thread about this kit specifically, but I think it got lost in the 21 other Downsizing threads.
I picked this up last night from a buddy for a steal. It's the "mini" with the 14" kick, 12" floor & 8" rack. I was curious if anyone has had any experience with one? They...
I was in Disney's California Adventure for their Anaheim Duck Days last weekend. Had the (very likely) once in a lifetime opportunity to touch the greatest trophy in sports. It amazed me the amount of dents and pock marks in this travel Cup.
I can honestly say there were some feels here. ❤️...
For me it was having as many drums and cymbals as possible as a teenager in 1987. I went through my Neil Peart phase thinking that’s what drummers did to be good.
Luckily age and wisdom took over and I learned to do more with less.
Mods, feel free to move this or delete it if it's elsewhere.
I'm sure many of you know this, but in case you don't...

As a teen growing up in the 80's, I just HAD to have the big, Neil Peart sized double bass kit. I was proud in 1987 as a 17 year old to be lugging that around to clubs & there was a sense of accomplishment that the menial fast food job I had allowed me such luxury.
Then some maturity & better...
I exited a group where playing for them just wasn’t fun. Chemistry was all wrong and being with them at gigs was straight up work! I couldn’t wait for the gig to be over and I dreaded the next one.
An interesting side effect of this is I don’t want to play my kit at all. I just don’t have the...
I have 14x10 & a 16x16 concert toms currently with Remo CS black dots. No matter how I tweak the tuning, they just sound really “boingy” (if that makes sense).
Should I go to a dual-ply head? Coated or clear?
I’m not sure why I can’t get it right, but feel a head change might be prudent.
Thoughts?
I had a bass player tell me I needed to “drive the beat” and as a pocket player, I really didn’t know what he was talking about.
To me, “driving the beat” means “rushing” as you’ll be a bit ahead.
He said if the backbeat comes down on time, the audience will feel as if the band is “dragging”...
Which is correct?
Is this in the same level discussion of diameter/depth vs. depth/diameter? Is there an industry standard or is it open to however you say it?
Discuss.
I joined a new cover band here in town. Went in cold for the audition & they loved it. My personality is great with them & they were very happy to have someone who isn't about the drinking, drugs or drama.
Many rehearsals & 2 shows into my employment & I'm starting to see some cracks. I came...
A screen shot of Max playing a larger bottom than the top. Is there a sonic advantage to this? Not sure why I’ve never noticed this before and I’m curious if anyone knows more.
