The one…the only…Todd Bishop!
*reckless applause*
Man I took lessons from Charlie Doggett in college back in 2006. Haven't seen that name in awhile! He was a monster player for sure.YES! Though I'm not sure my career warrants these lofty accolades. But there are a ton of great drummers around, not that many of them are super famous:
Gary Hobbs
Mel Brown
Ron Steen
John Bishop
Alan Jones
Carlton Jackson
Graham Lear
Donnie Osbourne
Chris Conrade
Reinhardt Melz
Martin Zarzar
Charlie Doggett
Jason Palmer
Chris Brown
Tim Rap
Sam Henry
Don Worth Jr.
I hear there are a couple of great drummer/percussionists involved with Three Leg Torso, too...
I feel like that's about 20% of the real list. There are and have been a lot of great players here.
Grew up here/lived here at some point, moved away:
Dean Castronovo
Zoro
John Wooton
Moved here for some extended period:
Dick Berk
Steve Smith
Brian Blade
Can't forget Philly Joe Jones!I got Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in mine so I'll go with
Art Blakey Spider Rondinelli (George Benson) west side and Albert "Tootie" Heath brothers East
The great Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney and The Jicks has lived in and been associated with Portland (and Portlandia) long enough to make the list, I think?YES! Illinois here, and I'm sure there are several, but I can only recall Gene Krupa.
Also Victor Lewis:I've called Nebraska home since 2008...home of Buddy Miles.
Hey X don't forget Joe Vitalefrom Ohio off the top of my head:
Jerome Dillon - NIN. Was actaully a childhood friend of mine
Dave Grohl
from Wiki:
Cindy Blackman Santana
Jim Mothersbaugh - Devo
Charles Wilcoxin - of the famous snare solo books from the 50's
Patrick Carney - The Black Keys
Michael Cartellone - founding drummer of Damn Yankees; current of Skynard
Josh Dun - 21 Pilots
Jimmy Fox - The James Gang
Butch Miles - many famous jazz groups of the 40's and 50's
Neil Smith - Alice Cooper
Chad Szelica - Breaking Benjamin; Black Label Society
Wow!! I did not know Fred Astaire was from Omaha! I almost added Johnny Carson but looked it up and he was actually born not far away in Iowa. Also Victor Lewis:
And this dude:
He incorporated drums into at least two other dances in his film career, but I went with this one 'cuz it's got the only stick trick I ever truly loved.
Hey X don't forget Joe Vitale
Lol...when I posted I was meaning where someone was born. But there are always the tangibles or intangibles. Like Kenny Aronoff I said was Massachusetts but his mom probably went over the border to NY to deliver him. So it's something of a conundrum.by 'from' do we mean 'born'...or 'currently living in', or 'state they resided in when they became popular', or......
Sorry...i've been working on translation of non-technical code specifications to a technical code spec all morning...I see details as large swollen infections at this point!
