Congratulations are in order for DW member @Griener for his playing on the soundtrack for The Brutalist, which just got the Oscar for Best Score.
It's double cool for me because he's using Cymbal & Gong cymbals on it :-D
Anybody know any earlier versions of this beat? In high school I head it on some Metal records, Phantom of the Opera by Iron Maiden, and Winged Assassin by Anvil.
I figure it's from Thin Lizzy or Deep Purple or something?

The future of music, ladies and gentlemen:
I mean... not really. It's just the hilarious, inevitable conclusion to this music/musician hating tech supremacist thing:
1) Seize the music business and demonetize it.
2) Remonetize at vastly below cost based on clicks.
3) Ehh get rid of...
Cool event at Revival Drums in Portland last night, their 15th anniversary party. They had Dave King, Dave Elitch (lately famous for these comments), Mel Brown, Stephen Hodges (Tom Waits), Spit Stix (Fear), Janet Weiss (Sleater Kinney) playing. I wrote some comments about it here.
It was a lot...
Hey gang-- any DWers in Germany-- I'm bringing a case of Cymbal & Gong cymbals NEXT WEEK for people to play and purchase. This will be the fourth time I've done this, and it has always been a lot of fun. Response to the cymbals has been great, and I'm glad to have a lot of great drummers in...

In Chehalis tomorrow there's going to be a drum gear swap meet at Alexander Park, 11am-5pm. Put together by some guys at Drumforum. Last year about a dozen people brought a considerable amount of gear, and there were some good bargains. More are expected this year.
I just got a big new order...
I played a whole lot of new Cymbal & Gong cymbals yesterday, some of which I'll be selling on my Cymbalistic site. Including some prototype 20" Extra Special Janavar crash-rides, with K-type hammering and lathing, and some prototype Second Line Chinese cymbals, which are funky, fast decaying...
Really good piece by Bill Frisell in Guitar Player magazine. I pared it down here-- the whole thing is great and everyone should read it:
1. Listen
Listening is the number one thing – taking your attention away from yourself.
You need to have your attention away from yourself. I don’t want to...
In 90 short minutes I'll be heading out to bring some Cymbal & Gong cymbals to Germany, for people to play and purchase, and will do a couple of meets/hangs with drummers.

Someone said Jon Christensen has died. If you don't know his playing throw on Keith Jarrett's album Belonging.
UPDATE: Or not? Apparently Erskine posted the news on Facebook, and then retracted it, and no one's finding confirmation of it.
I've got some upcoming events related to Cymbal & Gong cymbals, and my retail site, Cymbalistic.com. Mainly, we're doing a display of cymbals at the Ballard Jazz Festival in Seattle, and meeting some drummers in Germany-- delivering cymbals, and letting people see, play, and buy Cymbal & Gong...
