Brain radio floundered a bit this morning, but has finally settled on Closer to Home (I'm Your Captain) by Grand Funk Railroad. FWIW, if I warm up my pipes, I can still hit all the notes - but never in the morning... :(
I think they are all valid points, but for me, it's 1) getting older and 2) instant/total access.
As I get older, most gods have lost their "god" status as I realize they are often just "one-trick-ponies" and not much different than me otherwise. We all put our pants on one leg at a time. I...
Leo Kottke playing J. S. Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring live in 1977. I've got Kottke's 6 and 12 String Guitar (Armadillo album) and I play it jealously - only for me. I might play little snippets for other folks, but never in its entirety. There's too much depth in his playing to digest...
Admittedly, I haven't tried a lot of pedals with a critical eye, uhhh... foot. Like @toddbishop, I'm pretty much happy with any pedal. Like @equipmentdork, I've got a 90's vintage Yamaha pedal - maybe an FP6210 (if they even had model numbers back then) and it serves me well as my only pedal...
More from Michigan, USA
Peter (Rivera) Hoorelbeke - Rare Earth
Meg White - White Stripes
Jimmy Marinos - The Romantics
Gregg Bissonette - Studio; various artists
Steve Gorman - Black Crowes
Your generosity knows no bounds, kind sir. ;) :ROFLMAO:
If I could hear the version playing in your head, I'd likely change my opinion, but until then, I like Norah's version.
As for what's playing in my head...
Harry Chapin's Taxi has been playing since before I woke up at 04:18. Brain...
I've got brain radio and it serves me well. It keeps me occupied and others confused. But, when I gigged, brain radio helped me keep time and my bandmates honest if I offered gentle criticism. The original playing on brain radio was better than a click track, as I had the whole song on tap!
Like @Level42, I had some custom sticks made - maybe by the same company. Almost like the Peter Erskine Ride stick but with a larger acorn tip and made of maple. They played well, but the tips wore down faster than I'd expected and cross sticking dented them badly. Maybe they were made of...
Brain radio is playing Roy Orbison's Crying. But I'm not. Mrs Smoke and I are headed to Sault Ste. Marie, MI/Canada with friends today. A nice day trip. Haven't visited the Soo since I was a kid, so am looking forward to it. Here's Roy.
No offense, but I like it the way it was recorded - sort of somber and stark. But...
I did a bit of a dive and found that the song was written by Chris Cornell of Soundgarden. Okay. Didn't know, but the tune was familiar. So kept reading...
And that Chris Cornell died young. Didn't know...
Brain radio is still stuck in the 70's - thankfully!!
Here's Rare Earth doing Big Brother from the Rare Earth in Concert (backpack) album - a great jam. Pete Rivera on lead vocals AND drums.
Judging by the size of the center hole in relationship to the overall diameter (assuming the center hole size is pretty much standard among cymbal manufacturers), I'm going with:
1) Ride, 2) Splash, 3) Crash, 4) Top Hat
I have no control over brain radio, though I can make suggestions that will sometimes "change the channel." To make it worse, brain radio apparently plays at night while I'm sleeping (I'm a lucid dreamer...) - I awake every morning with a song playing in my head.
Today it was Abba and Mama...
My 15" K Custom Dark plays well with my 1990's vintage 17 and 19" A Medium crashes. I'm a basement dweller now, but it worked fine for semi-acoustic gigs in small venues. It has just enough bite but gets out of the way quickly - and doesn't duplicate my old 10" K Splash.
Good on ya, Ryan! "Benefit gigs" quite often have a pay-out that can't be measured monetarily.
The memory will stick with you longer than the money would have and your new friend will never forget that session.
I'll never forget my first time playing with real musicians and am forever...
