Post your Gig Pics

The first a gig pic from 12 years ago. Yes my cymbal on left behind bassist-rest behind a curtain.

It's a recurrent theme.

Another wedding gig on Monday night, taken during setup. It was blistering hot and I was sweating bullets throughout.

The groom apparently could play guitar. Well he got up and played one song with us, turns out he can’t really play guitar or was far too drunk to remember how to 😂

(Hopefully he didn’t have any further ‘performance issues’ later than night!!!)

On the wall opposite us you can just make out a noise limiter. The band did a great job and didn’t have a single issue for 2+ hours.

However, the DJ after us kept hitting the limit, having the sound cut out every couple or so minutes, each time without any music for a few minutes.

He was having a terrible time and I could see the groom and the guests getting more and more frustrated as we packed down and loaded out, got out of there…etc as it was really bad.

Hopefully the last wedding gig for a while after 3 of them in two and a bit weeks.

Summers in Kansas can be miserable with the heat and humidity. Cross town hardware is showing my age, 😆 🤣 😂

You’re not kidding !!!!
Kansas summers 🥵 😓. I spent a week in July at my sisters some years back in Lawrence Kansas. Was some of the most humid hot weather I’ve ever experienced 😩. Temps in the low 90’s with very high humidity.
The saying it’s not the heat , it’s the humidity is soooo true . She moved to central western Colorado a few years later and visited for a week in July there as well. The temps in the shade were over 100 but pretty much zero humidity. I only had sweat on my upper lip as opposed to being drenched in sweat all over when in Kansas !
When I remarked to her the striking difference given the much higher temps in Co. ( by 10-20 deg) and that given the heat I was barely sweating, she said ……
“ yup , we’re not in Kansas anymore Toto “.

Packing the Ebenor Elm STAVE KIT for its maiden live voyage. This monday July 7th, my band is up to its biggest concert to date, we are headlining the main stage at FEQ in Québec City. Fingers crossed for clement weather.IMG_1469.jpeg

I did a whole write-up on the provenance of the wood used to build this kit here:

I will update on the event in a separate thread.

Please explain the noise limiter as I've never heard of this?

Unfortunately it’s a box type device that some Venues have installed, that’s connected to yours or the venues PA and has a microphone inside.

An example of one is below. You can tell when you’re close to the limit by looking at the colour display.

If you hit the decibel limit and that venue has set and stay at that for a pre set amount of time then it cuts everything out and it needs to reset again to allow use of the PA.

At this venue it was 100db, which the DJ after us kept hitting, much to everyone’s frustration.

You can just see it on my photo of the room on the wall next to the fireplace, just to the left of the chandelier.

If you keep an eye on the display as you play it’s normally not an issue, but they are a pain regardless.

There's a guy at one of the open mics that holds up a yellow card if the band is too loud. We've gotten that a few times

I can see it now. "I only come here to drink 2 bud heavies, harass these so called 'musicians', and tip the bartender with my pocket change."

Something about this Brazilian restaurant gig that always seems to make for great pics. One of my favorite places to play in Bakersfield, and although it’s a decent paying gig, the comped food alone would be worth playing there for free. Yummy!

Gig Saturday night

It was a lot of fun, one of those gigs whereby I didn’t want to stop playing and two hours wasn’t enough - unfortunately the venue has strict cut off times so out of our control

Even had a guest singer come up and join us, an American tourist visiting from Florida that is practicing ‘rejection therapy’ due to some issues.

….I helped her out with that by refusing her request to play on my drums 😂

She did great guest singing and it was nice seeing someone who’s obviously struggling with something so happy, playing a song she chose that had a special memory of her father.

I hope that’s a cool memory for her to take back to the states.

Went with the 24”, 13”, 14” & 16” DW config & my Black Beauty, all of which sounded absolutely amazing both by ear and via my IEMs.

I know I use a couple other kits but the DW just solidifies itself each time as the best sounding kit I’m lucky enough to own.

All in all it was a fun night, even if insanely hot again.
