I've only looked at which members are online. I never realized there were so many bots and lurkers.

Okay, help me out here. I can't see the pics. How do I get to the page where the bots are shown? I've seen the lists of users online, but I get the sense that this is not what your pics are showing. That’s why no ads and how it’s “free” in one sense of the word….

Search "bots" crawl throughout a web site and map out all the internal & external links. Google was the first to do this (one of the founders wanted to find Stanford U. research papers more easily). Nowadays, the bots also track which members go where by tracking your web activity. Apple's Safari has a setting to help prevent tracking, but I don't know how effective it is.Can anyone explain what the robots are? Are they there for AI learning?
They've been around for decades...I find it amazing that there is a category for robots.
Can anyone explain what the robots are? Are they there for AI learning?
I no longer understand how the world works. I mean, I never did, but before it was the mysteries of the universe that eluded me. Now it's basic, everyday things like more robots than humans reading the forums.![]()

It has been a very long time since I've been a fan of Google, but if I'm not mistaken—and I could be—in this case, it's a net boon, as these robots trawling are how so many people discover this fine site. It's why you can search for, say, "gretsch usa custom vs ludwig classic maple" and this'll be one of the top results.I find it amazing that there is a category for robots.

The saying is: "If you ain't paying for it, then you are the product."so in laymans terms, they track our doin's on the internet to make some one else crap tons of money....
It does. But without those robots trawling DW, I'm not sure I would have discovered this place 10 years ago.True enough, but it all comes with a price.
how I found Drummer World. Most likely, it was by a search, but probably not directly via Google. Startpage.com uses Google's indexes but without the other stuff. It does. But without those robots trawling DW, I'm not sure I would have discovered this place 10 years ago.
I will concede that. The rest is rather narrow minded.
Let's not tread so closely to personal insults, please and thank you.Spoken like a true neo-Luddite. Forums are my biggest dip into social media.

What?! neo-Luddite is a personal insult? It surely wasn't intended to be, and the fellow didn't take it that way. Never mind that that was exactly the tenor of that portion of the thread.Let's not tread so closely to personal insults, please and thank you.
