Drum Center of Portsmouth

I ordered 2 Wuhan crashes and a Ludwig hi hat stand from them, both the cymbals arrived with a reddish dot on them which frankly looked like dried blood. The Ludwig sticker on the hihat stand was put on upside down, but that was more a Ludwig problem.
On the flipside I bought high end snares there that I ended up not liking and the return process was no questions asked.
I don't really like their videos - I think Carter McCleans drum videos with only 2 mics always sound waaaay better than their over produced "room mics" "full mix", etc. baloney.
Thanks for the feedback... although I disagree with the comment about the videos for obvious reasons.
I don’t hear any reverb or compression in your videos, am I correct, Tony? I think you guys do super vids. All I care is that you do vids the same approximate way so you have a standard to go by. And you do kit mics, room mics, and a combination in your longer form demos, so how is that baloney? Sounds pretty honest to me.

Carter does his thing and go Carter, but he’s not running a drum shop. DCP does their thing and it works.

I hate having people hover over me.

What depth? What shell material?
Why I ask? Because that snare was on my wish list this year. Thanks.
Straight Satin maple, natural finish...14 x 6.5" with micro sensitive strainer and 10 lugs. It was listed as used, excellent condition, for $419, but when I pulled it our of the box to look it over (then put it away until Christmas, lol), it hasn't even been tuned up or played. My guess is whoever first bought it did not like that the seam on the exterior ply was between lugs instead of lugs covering that up. It surprised me a bit too, but as @jda would remind us, such a cosmetic feature is inconsequential to the sound. For me, the price was right.

Thanks. You learn something new every day. If that is a desirable feature from an aesthetic and the quality of manufacturing point of view, then I wonder why Gretsch decided not to implement it for this higher end snare. Anyway, these were the three on my wish list.
Gretsch Full Range Maple Snare Drum 6.5x14
Gretsch Brooklyn Maple Snare Drum 6.5x14
Ludwig Classic Maple Snare Drum 6.5x14

I'm curious as to why this matters.
Of Striker's three choices, two are made in the US. I was just making sure he realized that. Only Gretsch top of the line snares are made in the US. The Full Range line is not actually made by Gretsch.

Do you know where the other lines are made? I'm just curious. I don't subscribe to the idea that drums made in the US are necessarily any better than anywhere else, but I'm wondering where Gretsch gets the less expensive lines made.

You can easily google for that info, as it has been discussed here and elsewhere. (y)

Definitely no reverb. I do use EQ and compression in mild amounts to get the sound closer to what your ears hear. Microphones hear differently than your ears do, so dry unprocessed microphone signal isn’t even remotely accurate.

I’m very transparent about what I do so if anybody has questions, I’m totally open to discuss. I know some others try to guard their secrets…
