A gentle reminder to read the forum rules

Happy New Year to old friends and new!

As many new drummers have just celebrated the holidays with the gift of their first drum set and are here as the first step in their education, and sometimes those of us who have been here the longest can become a bit too comfortable, I'd like to remind everyone old and new to read or re-read the Forum Rules pinned to the top of the first page of the General Drumming section. Of particular concern are the following:

1: Language and the treatment of others. Do not use vulgar or insulting language, and do not quote those who do. The offending posts will be deleted, along with the posts quoting them. Do not engage in personal arguments, attacks, or insults of others, be they members of this forum or not. We are here to help, educate, and encourage. Language and treatment of others that would not be tolerated in a beginning drummer's lessons will not be tolerated here, and offenders will be banned.

2. Keep it on topic. Please post in the appropriate section of the forum, and please to not drag the conversation away from the original topic. If a post or thread is edited or moved, please understand that we are only trying to keep it organized. If your first impulse is to reply with a joke... just don't. Remember: help, educate, and encourage.

3. The Off Topic section. As it says in the posted rules, the Off Topic section was originally created to post questions or comments of a musical nature but not necessarily drumming-related. This section is the most often troublesome for the moderators, and the farther afield the subject is, the less likely the thread is to remain. Please stay away from religion, politics, world affairs, extremely personal or trivial matters, and asking for or offering physical or mental health advice. There are much more appropriate places to offer or seek such information. Again, there are more details in the posted rules. Please read!

4. Edits, deletions, arguing, warnings, and bans. This forum can have hundreds of posts in one day, and there's no way for the moderators to go back in and edit every post that majorly or minorly violates the rules. It's much more efficient to simply ask you to post in good faith, and then for us to edit or delete, at our discretion, the posts of anyone who cannot participate in that fashion. Multiple deletions or edits are more than we would like from a single member of the forum. Questioning or arguing about the work of the moderators is rarely fruitful, and warnings are few and far between. If you cannot be troubled to read the rules and follow them, you will be shown the door. Bans are permanent.

This forum is a labor of love for all involved, and the moderators are volunteers who have been here for many years. We are so happy to have you here, and we look forward to your continued participation!
