13" Zildjian A New Beat Hi Hats

I used to have those hats. Now I have 14 inch AAX hats. Peace and goodwill.

I found a little snippet of a live gig with my 13" hats. It was a while back and was recorded on a VERY old early model digital camera, so the video quality isn't much, but the sound isn't too bad. :)

Edit - the hi-hat part I'm playing at 30 seconds is copped straight from La Villa Strangiato. :D

I played a pair of those for many years. Mine sounded almost exactly like these (hi-hats start to fade in about 1 minute mark) :

Though the video quality I do realize that we were fans of Rush, when I discover the band, Neil Peart was one of the drummers who were influence on me since day one, His playing style is intergal part of my life, easy transition to Progressive Rock.

Either one way or another, Our styles were different, We have vision for ourselves.

You got a nice kit, I have to say, You're a true musician, hope to see you in person.

God Bless You and Take Care.
Tony Ivanov. 🙏

My favorite hats are 13” Paiste Signature Heavy—Stewart Copeland’s hats before the Combo Crisps. The only other hats I’ve come close to liking are Sabian 13” HHX Evolution hats.
I own several various pairs of 13" hats, including 13" New Beats. I own 1 and 1/2 pairs of the 13" 602 Heavy Hats and a 13" Signature Heavy Bottom, which I picked up used at a great price. I pair the Sig heavy bottom with the "orphan" 602 heavy top at times for the best of both worlds. (y)

I had a set of 13" K/Zs that I got secondhand for $100, which was a smoking deal. After several years I traded them for a pair of 14" A Custom Mastersounds. They were great but 13"s started feeling too high-pitched. In fact, for several years after that I actually played two 16" crashes as hats -- maybe the other end of the spectrum?

13" hats and 12" snare in this picture - I obviously was in my Gavin Harrison phase.

Aaahh! Lucky you! The 13” 602 Heavy hats were what Copeland used on Synchronicity and Ghost in Machine, I believe! Awesome.

Paiste brought back the 602 Heavy Hats but only in 14”/15”, not 13”. 😡

I’m not super into large hats, but the Paiste 15” 2002 Big Beat hats sound pretty good.

Heretic!!! Trading 13" K/Z Hats?!?

May your large hats turn completely green with tarnish!!

(Unless you like mossy cymbals. In that case...)

May your large hats forever stay shiny and new and never have a stick mark, sweat stain or fingerprint!!

That'll teach ya, @alparrott!!

Bet you couldn't tell that I love my old 13" K/Z hats. ;)

If I had them back, I probably wouldn't trade them again. In fact, I've kind of regressed - my hat pairing of choice right now is a Bosphorus Traditionals thin top over an A Custom Mastersound bottom... kind of a DIY K/Z pairing, but in 14" not 13". So you have my word, the next pair I find, I'll keep!

With the prices of cymbals these days, I would think that perhaps smaller cymbals would sell better, being that they are less expensive. It has bugged me a bit that Paiste hasn't offered 13" hats at all in the reissue 602 line. Paiste knows that most drummers prefer bigger hats now than in the past, so there isn't much of a demand. And many who might want to grab a pair of 602 13s probably won't because of the price tag. I own a pair of 13" 602 Sound Edge hats as well, but of course it has a crack in the top. If Paiste ever does reintroduce the 13" SE's, I would probably save up just for a new top. That's one of the advantages of the New Beats. They are much less prone to cracking compared to the 602 sound edges.
