Last one 602 blue label, small crack, cut out with a die grinder (as were the others). the lager the radius, the less chance it will crack in the same spot, drilling a stop hole does not work! The smaller the radius of the area cut out, the more stress and flexing occurs at the that point, thus creating a new crack!

Got a question…one of my hi hats has 3 flea bites next to each other along the edge. Should I file that off? Someone said on one of these sites that they can cause cracking if you don’t file it off, but just wanted other opinions. So far it hasn’t cracked and I’d like to keep it that way. Sabian AA regular for those who care.

Yes. I can't say they if they do cause cracking but I removed lots from my cymbals after following advice from this forum
I gave the edges a good polish with fine sandpaper and wirewool and they now have a satisfying but subtle sparkle whilst still having a patina. A bit like well used but polished shoes. Also they are nicer to handle
It's a nice little downtime job with quick results and no risk

bought this China with nicks in the edge... super minor. Took minutes to fix! But sounds great and saved some money!

Heating a cymbal with a heat gut is a bad idea, you don't know what temp you're heating the alloy to, heat guns can easily reach 500° or more, the risk is, you may reach the annealing point of the alloy....

you are correct indeed. I literally only did it because when I modify body panels for cars we heat them up because of the paint. Less chance of paint chippage. This was just an experiment and I did put in the body of my video on the youtube page that heating up is not necessary. But I agree. If I did it again I wouldn't heat it, just beat it hahahaha

It may work, especially on B20 which is more brittle than B8, but I'd find out what kind of temps the cymbal can handle safely and then monitor the temp.
I have a VERY old 602 predecessor that has a small bend on the edge, I straightened it out a little but I'm afraid of bending it too far and it cracking!

Crimped some Sound Edges on a 15" 2002 bottom. It's already out of flat, so I've figured there's not much to lose. I still wouldn't try it on a B15 or B20 cymbals, as they're more rigid/brittle and cannot be cold forged. I think the Edge gives me a bit more sensitivity, and being Medium they're a bit lighter and lower pitched. Definitely, all my future hi-hats will have Sound Edges.

The guide shown before is really good. If the damage is too big, you can cut it so you are only left with the bell (6"-8" diameter) and you have yourself a nice Z-Bell. You can also use a repaired cymbal and stack another repaired one on top and make a nice effects cymbal / stacker. I do this when the damage is so big that the cymbal is pretty much deformed and it doesn't look good by itself.
